Hi,
I know it says XP and Vista, but Vista software usually runs fine on Windows 7. I really want to buy this game, but I'm using Windows 7 64 bit, so if it doesn't work I won't bother.
Thanks!
Eric

According to a few people in this thread

It seems to work fine with windows 7 64bit.
You can add me to that list. I'm on Win7 Ultimate 64 bit and Outcast works flawlessly for me.
Cool, thanks guys. I guess I'll go for it. :)
I owe the two CD version (once part of the compilation "play the games vol.3") and I'm unfortunately unable to get it to run. Even the 3rd patch doesn't seem to help. The installation looks just fine, but after setting the options the game demands disk two in any drive - even if it's already in. After installing patch three the game started, i guess - because all i saw was a black screen. I got a rumor that these problems don't occur with the DVD version.
Overall I'm curious about the version ex. g. Namur used and, of course, how he got the game to run.
I'm using gog's version. I didn't had to do anything special, just install and play.
i just encountered that there is a patch existing only for the 2 CD version from "play the games vol.3" - after installing the game seems to run just fine; except of the graphic. The max. 512x384 resolution decreases the joy to play enormous :(
Can't get it to work at all on asus g74 sx laptop with win 7 64 bit.

All i get is a blank screen after i use the shortcut and it crashes the pc.

Can't even go back to desktop with ctrl alt del like i usually can if a game crashes.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Does it play the intro? mine did, but it was offcenter and the audio was way off. Its a BINK video...so maybe its codec issue. I'm not sure if you can skip the intro or not.

Try running it as an administrator.
Hey, thanks,
Not long after posting this i managed to get it to work thanks for the help though.

I don't think mine played up during video sequences it all seemed ok.

Very interesting game and i am saddened we don't see these types of games now that go that extra step for immersiveness very often anyway.

This one holds up pretty well today aside obviously from a graphical standpoint.
The atmosphere is great though.
Had no luck with my original 2-cd copy even after extensive patching, but the gog version works perfect for Windows 7 64-bit right out of the gate! Only thing you need to do to make it match the original is go into the Game Settings screen and turn off subtitles. Enjoy!

It is such an interesting game. One of the few i really took no notice with graphics on and just enjoyed the overall experience.

Quite unique despite it's age.
It's very unstable in Windows 7 (64 bit). I can't recommend it.

No it isn't. It's just unstable in your computer not in Win 7 64 bit.

I also have Win 7 64 bit computer and game is very stable. I don't know why people always assume that operating system causes the stability issues when there are plenty of things, both hardware and software, which could cause the stability issues.

And I don't care about what some random fanboys try to tell me on an internet forum. The other reports plus my own are enough to assess that it's unstable. If the crowd with an attention span of less than two minutes can't advance beyond Ranzaar and didn't test it, not my problem. I did and it crashes regularly. It's not a special hardware-configuration, plus other 64-bit systems experience similar problems.

It's an AMD GPU and Intel quad-core.

I didn't expect it to run and just wanted to test it, so I didn't try to fix it with various patches for instance. It crashed both times, after a few minutes.

Yes, it might be stable on another Win 7 64 bit system, but not in general.
