So, I really like the atmosphere in this game, and it seems to be really cool, but I'm having a bit of an issue with the combat. I'm in the Shamazaar region, and every encounter with the soldiers becomes really drawn out. I tend to fire a lot of bullets, but since they travel so slow, the soldiers just sidestep away before being hit.

It feels like I'm doing something wrong when an encounter with 1-2 soldiers ends with me wasting 50+ bullets....

Any tips? Anything to think about? And please don't suggest stealth, because if the stealth is as "good" as it was in the tutorial, that won't be working at all......
Hmmm... it seems like this might work. For exploration and adventuring, use the gamepad. For combat, switch to keyboard + mouse and circle strafe and massacre the soldiers with superior aiming....
I've only ever played with keyboard and mouse, so I can't comment on the aiming. But it sounds like it's helping for you, which is good. Stealth is only ever useful for taking out one guy, then the rest will see you and you'll have to fight them. But you can also try using other items, like your decoys and remote-triggered dynamite. Most useful, however, will probably be to get some better weapons. To find those, you'll have to explore the other regions beyond Shamazaar. Don't be afraid to do this, there's no reason you have to stay in Shamazaar in the beginning.
the first thing you have to do in this game , is to sabotage the food production of rice ... after this you can kill any gurard with 2 -3 hits then 15 to 60 ....
Keyboard and mouse is a must if you want to conserve ammo, get the perfect shot or a fight is tricky with lots of enemies but I use the game pad for the easy one on one fights where i can spray and pray. I swap back to the mouse when I have to as it really does make a huge difference under fire.

Keep on the move. Be aware of the location of the enemy and when they fire as the shots are mostly slow and you can dodge them. Watch out for the different types of ammo and shot the enemy can fire at you as they'll behave differently. Look around for cover as it really helps. The radar also helps prevent you get blind to what you see. Tunnel vision can cause you to wander into a trap or miss reinforcements coming.

If a fight is looking like a tough one consider planning ahead by laying traps and distractions. You have a lot of tools in your arsenal beyond the basic gunplay. You could set up mines, decoys, etc. or split them up and pick off lone guards or smaller groups, snipe one or two and run off or use obstructions and corridors to your advantage so only one guard can see or get at you at a time.

Very important early on to try to weaken the guards as suggested above. The sabotage of the riss production will save you a ton of ammo and time and make frustrating fights or slow slogs into more managable fun ones - which is also where some players will probably realise it was meant to be fought under those conditions... The game would be ridiculously hard if you never did the quests to weaken the various aspects of the guards before trying to take out all of them on each map. I'm sure someone has done it for sport though.
I am rather new to Outcast, but here are my tips: stay sneaky if you detect any enemies (c to crawl), and to conserve ammo try to take out as many guys as possible with your fists until you are detected. When you are detected, pull out a gun (don't hesitate to use a good one), and go into first-person by pressing CTRL. Once there, do not fire away like a madman, unless you are surrounded by a group of enemies and you don't have the flamethrower or rocket launcher. Plan your shots carefully. If an enemy is running in a specific direction, then aim the gun in front of him in that direction and fire precisely. If you have the sniper rifle (hope I'm not spoiling anything), you can also take out unaware enemies from a distance, and not be detected (sometimes). The mine launcher is an extremely good gun for medium range combat, the flamethrower and rocket launcher are good for crowds, and the automatic pistol is good for close range (the bullets lose range very quickly). As for the regular pistol, use it to break pots. And remember! If you run out of ammo, running away is always an option and you can save up and come back later when you're ready.
thought i'd come in here and share my veteran thoughts, but i see that there already are great posts in here :-)

so i guess the only thing i'll add is that the flamethrower is just incredible (could call it overpowered).
though, it does burn (ha ha) through ammo like crazy.
also, when you find out what weapons work for you, try to craft ammo (recreator) before you spend cash :-)

happy adventurin'!

It is very hard and you have to produce much new bullets. It is long time ago that I played the game. But you could place Dynamit on the floor and if opponents run over the dynamite you shoot on the dynamite. One bullet is then enough. But that is very hard to do.

But the fighting abilities of Cutter Slade are in this version very strong. Try some of the boxing-moves of cutter slade if you have only one opponent or two.

I have read the manuel and we have several possibilities to destroy enemies with all the stuff in our inventory. For example Clapr-T and THNDNR-STP33.
