I won't tell you Original War is original: a) it is stated in games' name, b) it really isn't so hard to think of something original, in a "I'll create a strategy with boncig balls fighting each other" way. I'll rather tell you: Original War is AWESOME. Yes. Awesome with big A, W, E, S, O, M and E, because in case of this strategy, it's so awesome that every single letter is more important than preceeding one (yeah, I got that from Simpsons). Sooo What's so awesome, you ask. Kinda everything about this game, I answer.
Graphics: classic 2D, non-complicated, beutifully detailed graphics. Yes, that would be all. As you can see on the pictures, graphical side of this game is masterfully crafted, with wheels and little windows and rockets and bullets and everything. I just have to admire little things affecting gameplay: like grass bending under feet/wheels of your army, which makes you easily tracable by enemy, sight of view, which is infuenced by obstacles in the way (yes, in this strategy, you can actually hide behind that tree in front of you, even in multiplayer)
Gameplay: Simply great. First things first: You'll soon notice that you are not able to build new soldiers to your army. Well, this is not C'n'C and you don't have automatic ultra quick sex mashines to produce new meat to your army. And here comes aspect I like wery much about this RTS: You eventually come to like your bunch of soldiers. This is even strengthened by RPG element in the game: your characters learn by doing things. Does he repair often? His tech skills are going up! Does he shoot things? Well, he's much better soldier then! And so on. Of course, you cannot take your soldier and build something: but in specialised buildings you can change gear of your characters to do different tasks. But remember: soldier probably won't be as good at repairing as technician. Oh, and you need drivers for your vehicles, too! Though it's more fun to get your drivers to enemie's vehicle :D Another nice thing is the fact you can design your mashinery. That means you can choose chasis, weapon and engine: everything with it's andvantages and disadvantages. Solar engine, f. e., is all fun, until you run out of power in a middle of a fight. Or get outrun by stronger gasoline. Bulding base, research and stuff? It's all here, but it's just like in any other RTS...
Sound is listened and music played, there's not much more I can tell you about these. It's not a miracle, but it's nice.
Well, when I think about it, the only thing I dislike about this game is missing skirmish game. And that's not much. Are you fan of great stories, RTS's and RPG's alike? Then this will become one of your most favourite games of all times. And for this price? Don't even think about not-trying it!
