Just encountered a weird glitch where the game wouldn't let me save. It wasn't a problem of not having enough magic rings either, as I had 18 of them, it's that the save point just didn't work and using it brought up nothing but a weird camera angle.

In addition, the Esc key didn't bring up the menu either.

I played for another 30 or so minutes and the problem never corrected itself so I had to Alt + F4 out.

Unfortunately, I hadn't saved in awhile as I got caught up in the story so I lost a ton of progress. Game is great but the save system is atrocious.

Moral of this story is save as often as you can and just be aware of this weird glitch. Not sure what caused it and the save point worked fine again when I rebooted the game.
Seems like GOG introduced a lot of errors that were never there in the first place... That's a bit sad, I do hope they will work on patching it up a bit.

To be fair, this might have been a one-off thing resulting in alt tabbing or something.

I finished the game this weekend and the problem never cropped up again. Luckily, the game gives you way more magic rings then you'll ever need so just save often and you won't lose that much data.

I think I finished the game with 27 magic rings and I saved frequently.

For me, the keyboard arrow keys in the save section is ultra sensitive. You have to very lightly tap them to take you to the select save part before you can save. Up down works fine but sideways is extremely sensitive.

Can still save fine though, it just takes a bit of practice.
Having the same save issue in the apartment kitchen where the first save point is. I have the 3 rings from the alley, I hit save, it pops up with the save page. New Save" highlighted I try to save and it does nothing. I've restarted this game 3 times now thinking the game just locked up and that why it wasn't saving but this is a pain in the butt Since you can't skip the opening and the song. Booooooooooring. This was the same issue I had with the retail copy of this game that left it on the shelves for years. I figured if anyone could get it to work correctly it would be GOG but this time, nope.

Last time, I walked out of the kitchen when it wouldn't save to find a person in the LR and the dialog locked up near the end.

EDIT:
Hummm, thanks to another thread here, I finally figured it out. The game doesn't like my Momo racing wheel . Disconnected it and now the game saves just fine. Want to say Dead Space 1 has a similar issue except I just spin around in that one til I disconnect.

Anyone know of a device i could use to turn off the wheel unless needed so i don't have to keep unplugging it? Royal pain in the tush trying to plug it back in with the way my rig is situated..
