Whenever I try to start the game, it gives me the error "Direct X error : Impossible to set display mode."

I've tried messing around with the property settings, and I'm about to try messing around with the resolution. I'm on Windows 7 x64 by the way.

Have you run DxDiag?
Somehow I got the settings just right or something, because it started working. Strange. Thanks for the reply though!
I have the exact same problem. Any tips?
Also, the patch for large vram won't install, might that have something to do with it?
Operating system?
I had problems with the sound in Tomb Raider Legend after using a Creative Card instead of the onboard Realtek sound. After I installed the last version of DirectX 9.c which you can download on the net (version june 2010 if I remember right is another name) it worked.
May be this helps you too?
Alternatively you can install 9.c from another game you may have on CD (in fact I installed all versions og 9.c I found with various games, until there was´nt anymore to install...)
Just doubleclick. Windows does the rest.
As I learned DirectX 11 is not backwards compatible as it was before Win7...
Sorry for the late reply, but my problem was due to the resolution, it seems. I have my computer hooked up with an HDMI cord, which won't allow the PC to display certain resolutions unless you go to the resolution settings and turn them down. I turned mine to the lowest, and it ran fine.
