Right after I installed and tried starting up Strangers Wrath HD I received this error message: "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect." It concludes with "Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more details."

Turns out, downloading Visual Studio 2008 (VC++ 9.0) SP1 from Microsoft fixed the issue. Wasn't sure whether to download X86 or X64. So I just installed both and was finally able to run and play the game: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170
