Hi guys, so it looks like Abe's Odyssey is getting a reboot. I'm not 100% sure on how I feel. Some reboots I like (Like Serious Sam HD) and Odyssey I don't (Like Conker's Live and Reloaded)

I never imagined this game getting a reboot, and I'm not sure if 3D art (Because lets face it everything will be 3D'd)

Will look as good as it did before.

But who knows, maybe they'll do a good job.

So, what are your thoughts?

Interesting look I think. I definitely want to try it but somehow I don't get the feeling I'll be getting the nostalgic buzz from this reboot. Hopefully it'll get others to look at the original though.

Keep in mind this is pre alpha, I wander if it will have the same heart pounding intensity as the the first one.

Yeah! it looks AWESOME! But i dont know if i will have the patience to play the game a second time, I love the graphics... the ideas on the game... but maybe I´m getting old, this "flashback" or "Another World" try and mistake, try and mistake gameplay system is for me now, annoying and frustrating... even if I´m loving the game.

I see very little point in buying a "reboot"/re-imagining/re-hash/remake/etc. particularly when the original is still available. Or in this case, available again. Personally I'm really tired of everything in the world being remade, movies, music, and games. People are paid to take someone's idea and call it their own 'twist' or whatever. I miss the days when they would just clean it up and repackage then sell us the same thing, at least that was honest.

The trailer doesn't really look bad, but I honestly can't tell the difference from the original without side-by-side comparison. I just don't understand why people are so afraid to simply take the new ideas they have and make a sequel rather than doing the same thing over and over again.

Sorry, this is kind of a pet peeve of mine. :P

I have the original still though its been a while; its absolutely due for a replay...

It looks like the main difference is just the visuals, from the limited bits i've seen, the core gameplay and ideas are the same.

Now, with it being possibly just a bit of eye candy - would I rebuy this? In a word: absolutely. I loved this series, I was heartbroken when it stopped with Strangers Wrath. If there was even the slightest chance enough interest could be rounded up to get them to bring back Oddworld Studios, damn skippy I'd be on that bandwagon!

I bought both Oddysee and Exoddus here on GOG, and it was great to revive those fond memories of my childhood. I saw the remake a couple of weeks ago, and I think it looks awesome. They tried to bring the series to the 21st century but keeping the soul of the older versions. It's fantastic that it's still a 2D (sort of) plataformer. I'm very anxious to play this remake, and hopefully they upload it here. I want the hole collection of Oddworld in my collection shelf.

Have you heard anything on a release date - or what it will be released on? I havent heard anything in a while :(

They don't say specifically the date it's going to be released. But at least we know it's going to be this year during holidays. So I asume it's going to be around December 2013. The game's still in alpha test phase and no new feedback or anything came out. If anything shows up I will upload the info.

Uhm, did they ACTUALLY say "at launch"?

At the time, it's pretty unclear when that PC launch will be anyway... seems to me they haven't even hinted at any date. :(
