I don't know if this wrinkle just showed up in a patch, but when I play now I constanly get messages that I've docked too fast ("higher than reccommended speed"), or come in too fast altogether when I'm using the autopilot.

I played this a lot a few weeks ago and I never saw any message like that before. What exactly are you supposed to do to get the autopilot to do it's job and properly dock your ship?

It doesn't seem to matter what engine type I have, I tried slow, med, very quick and they all exhibit the same issue now. It took me 5 mins to dock at a station because the autopilot kept overshooting the thing. But like I said, I never had this problem up until a couple of days ago.

Thanks for any help or info.

With the 1.0.6 update (the latest), the following items are listed within the changelog:
1) Added a warning message when docking at higher than safe speeds.
2) Fixed a bug where you could dock at high speeds.

I, too, have experienced an inability to automatically dock through the usage of auto-pilot (since this 1.0.6 update).

As a work-around, after having plotted and engaged a course, I perform a Full Stop (bound to a custom key) when the range to station reaches approximately 0.4 Gm (the same method that I use for mooring to debris). Then, manual docking is performed.

The auto-pilot pre-docking rotation seems to occur at a distance that is calculated based on the rotation speed of the current RCS module.

As to face 180 degrees away from the station, the RCSYS-KSM begins rotating at a range to destination of just under 11 Gm. Meanwhile, something like the RCSYS-G9S would need to begin turning at a much greater distance from the intended destination, due to its slow turning rate.

Hopefully, the developers will fix this issue (among others, such as crashing), prior to adding additional features.

Had this warning everytime I docked, but it was rare that the autopilot overshot until I bought new main engines. Now it happens every time. :/
