The injured Villein does not talk and the 222 does not show on the screen. Fortunately knowing the number is needed in order to view the Mayor in the pod. My game version is the latest at 1.841 for the PC version from GOG

In the earlier version of the game, there is a display screen over each of the two doors near the injured Villein.
In the latest version 1.8.41 there's only one display screen near the injured Villein, and nothing shows on that display screen.

....... All of the above was intentionally changed in the latest patch. It was too obvious to have the 222 displayed on a display screen. The clue was instead put in a book on a nearby table. That was truly a stroke of genius.

This change has already cost me two days. There is no indication anywhere in the game that the mayor should be the solution. It is not clear from the cocoon list, and all possible combinations were unsuccessful. I also got the solution “222” from a fellow player. But how do you know this number?
The only thing left to do is to try all the numbers on the list. It doesn't go all the way to 254 (the last entry), but it's still long enough, especially as you have to translate the symbols in the garage first.
There is this ominous drawing in the book, but it didn't help me.
If Cyan can come up with crap like that, then the game isn't worth the full price, although it wasn't bad otherwise.

The screen showing the number hint "222" was removed from Obduction in a 2019 update. Prior to that, many players did not always even see the number on the screen above the injured Villein alien in Maray.

Cyan Support received many reports about this bug, but the number 222 failing to appear on the screen was not consistently reproducible by Cyan's QA team, or by the players reporting it. Without reproducibility, the developers could not create a fix for the issue.

Subtle hints from the Mayor Josef's behavior already existed throughout the game, in the mayor's behavior in every video of him, allowing attentive players to consider checking the Mayor's cryopod, listed in the journal on the table in that same Maray room the alien is in.

Checking the (true) Mayor's pod in the "pod elevator shaft" is the only thing that enables that final Maray door to open.

Removing the screen hint to allow players to focus on the more subtle path was decided as the best resolution to the problematic, unreproducible bug. It is the only solution that did not break the game even further.

Some walkthroughs still say players should see the screen light up and show the number, but this will not happen in any Obduction builds for any format (PC, Mac, PS4, Xbox) post-2019.

I'm sorry you were led to believe you should see the number 222 on that screen in Maray, but that element is not included in the game anymore.
