How do I save the game? I've started three times now, but the game doesn't save upon quitting and I can't find a way to save my current place.

Good question.

The game auto-saves. You will see a solid dot in the upper right corner while playing. Do something or go somewhere in the game and in a few moments the game will save into the first slot.
thanks for the answer, I also was not getting any saves but I was staying in the intro area as I fiddle with graphic settings and preferences. was worried that there was a problem
Yes, the game autosaves but the autosave functionality does not work in the starting area.
The game actually autosaves every time you press the escape button and go into the menu.
You can see the save "dot" indication at the upper right corner of your screen.
Where is the actual saved game file stored on disk?

There are only two save slots. I would like to do as I have always done with the prior 6 Myst series games, which is to save a version of the game just before a major event. So I can easily go to that point in the game and watch it again, without having to start over from scratch. Once certain events occur, you cannot see them again, in that version of the game.

Knowing where the save file is located allows us to swap in archived versions.
The save files are located at C:\Users\YourUserNameHere\AppData\Local\Obduction\Saved

That's definitely where they are supposed to be. i"ve since figured out that Microsoft, in its infinite wisdom, created a hidden duplicate Admin User in a folder called Migrated default, which was invisible. I'm guessing it occurred when I updated Win 8 to Win 10. I don't have a "c" drive, it's called BootCamp. But I found the wayward user folder when I searched the disk with the "show hidden" setting.

Something else I discovered; You CAN save sequential game stages, in the "Load Game" panel. But you cannot name them inside the game interface. It automatically creates a numbered save file with the name of the World.

In the finder (or whatever it's called in windows) create your own archive folder outside of Obduction's save folder and copy your save folders and then rename them.

Thanks, SCRATCHM
Inside the options look for "bookmark" >>> save game a la Cyan :).
