Hi there,

i am a huge fan of the original MYST which i could solve just with one hint, nothing else. Never opened that envelope ;)

RIVEN and EXILE were too heavy for me and i quit after 1/3 of the game.

Can you compare Obduction more like MYST or more like its successors ?

Are there difficult levels ?

The thing is unlike with MYST 25 years ago i don't have the time to play that game daily and hours long, but you can forget important details from one weekende to another.....
Here is my experience and I am no puzzle crack.

You do need some spatial awareness. Turns out I am really good at that and even fixed misaligned world fragments for fun when it didn't have any purpose any more.
There is very little math involved, even that feared base4 number puzzle turns out to be a drawing and push button riddle. You end up with a number that is not base4 -.-
It is rather a system of shapes and certain shapes give you certain DECIMAL representations. If you add the shapes on top of each other and add up the decimal representations you get a new shape for the result. You need basic arithmetic and algebra to solve it.

You do need to have everything in your head together at the same time, as you need to think maybe one or two steps ahead to solve some problems, I will not call them puzzles any more.
Puzzle sound to be like in Myst where you get buttons and levers to open doors. Here you have a problem to reach something or disable something or move something to a place to do something and then you need think about how you can accomplish that.
I think there are maybe three numbers to open doors in the whole game.

Sometimes you have long ways to walk, but since you decide on the paths yourself you rather have the feeling to make things more complicated than they should be. If the walkways are rather short, you feel clever on the other hand.

p.s. as a comparison: I just started RealMyst Masterpiece Edition and it took me an hour to figure out I have to close the elevator door or the button does not work. In the meantime I read all the books and figured stuff out about the game. The controls in RealMyst and Obduction are nearly identical.

...
Thanks, Disi,

that sounds good. I think i will give it a try soon.

I played RealMyst in 2001 and it looked really astonishing but on the other hand it was not more my lovely Myst from 1996. I still have to device if i show my kids the original or real Myst sometimes :)
I'd answer but I'm totally stuck in the first area.

Trying to not use spoilers - I got a lot further, now I'm stuck where two pads need 3 digit and 6 digit codes Ihave no idea where to get.
