I'm playing on a rather old PC. and had to change all the settings to "medium" to get the game to run at all. I walked to the campsite, saw the "shooting star" and then the screen looked as it I had fallen into the campfire - all orange and yellow spots moving randomly but generally upward. I seem to be able to turn with the arrow keys, but beyond that nothing happens, for about a half-hour when I shut it down.

Am I wasting my time playing on this machine (2GB RAM, (2gHz CPU and Radeon 5900 graphics card) or is this a puzzle that I have to solve?

I guess 2GB is too little memory. It might be enough for the small starting area, but not for the bigger main world. That's why it won't load.

A Radeon 5970 should be acceptable though, and depending on your CPU, it might be that you just need to upgrade your system memory.

Thanks, Malek. That's an easy fix, I've just been too jazy to update that box. (my main computer is a Mac, but its graphics card is too old for Obduction.)

I'm having the same problem. Good to know what it is, and that I'm not alone in it.

I have the same problem. Once, the game made it past the campsite into the first world. I played for a while then quit. Next day I tried to load the game and It just keeps saying LOAD but doesn't load. If I try a new game, I can't get past the campsite again.I'm not sure a ram upgrade will work since the game played once, but now will not play.
I've been popping out a handheld device or two during each world to world transition and I've beat the game twice.

Some odd things happen at random but aside from that it's working for me.
There can be a long wait there - you are changing planets, relax and wait.
