It looks like there isn't a fix for higher resolutions. Is there a way, though, to play the game in windowed mode?

-swindow
to the end... so that it reads something like:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Gog\NOX\NOX.EXE" -swindow
desktop will need to be set to 16it colour....

Thanks a lot! I was searching for a way to adjust gamma to a lower value than what's possible in-game, but windowed mode just sticks my desktop gamma into the game, which really is better-looking now.
