Is there any way to stop weapons and armour from deteriorating? It's an extremely annoying feature.

It is extremely annoying and there's no way around it. You can repair them in stores and if you loot thoroughly, you have enough money to do so.

You can edit "Modifier.bin" file and make the items indestructible.
