Hello everyone. This is my first time posting in GOG and I have always been a bit overwhelmed with forums, so if this post is not in the correct area or anything I apologize.

So here is my issue: I actually found this game at Goodwill for $1.50, so naturally I bought it! I get home and it works perfectly fine. Threw in the discs, installed, serial keys work fine and plays well. What I want to know, is if there is anyway to play without the need for the disc? The reason being is that I use only a laptop that does not have a CD/DVD drive. I have external drives that I can plug into my laptop, but its very inconvienent to keep it plugged in as it requires two usb slots on my laptop (one for power and one for data transfer).

What I have tried so far: I already have daemon tools on my laptop and it does function properly. I know this because I do this same things with Morrowind. (I have to disc, installed the game, made an image of the disc and mounted it to daemon tools). I have a program that makes the image from the CD itself. So, image is made, disc is mounted to Daemon Tools, but when I attempt to run Nox it says I need to insert the disc. I have installed the game originally from the disc itself first, I made the image and mounted it and got that message. So then I uninstalled the game and reinstalled through the image this time, but I got the same message.

If anyone has ideas or anything that I can do to work around this issue it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you to everyone who takes to time to read this and a big thank you in advance for everyone's assistance. Hope everyone has a great day and happy gaming!

Have you tried installing the game normally, updating it with the version 1.2 patch and then applying the Nox1.2bNoCdL patch?

I can't link to any site hosting the patch but if you have a legal copy of the game, there should be absolutely no issue in using that patch. You can easily find the file with a Google search, I hope this works.
(I have the GOG version so I can't verify if the patch works)

Hello Awalterj,

Thank you for your speedy reply. So, I kept trying to update my game, but I guess the only way to do it through the original disc is by a link that takes you to the original website hosted by Westwood Studios. This site however is no longer in operation.

After doing a little searching through the folders, I found a Compatibily Mode version of the executable that came installed in the game folder. I tried that running as Admin and it worked, but there was no sound. So, I tried the normal executable as Admin and eventually it let me play the game. It took about 5 tries of launching and getting the no disc error, but eventually it let me in.

Once again, thank you so much for your reply and if there is ever anything I can help with, please let me know and I will be more than happy to. Have a great day and happy gaming!
