SoulEvans: I'm sharing my map, it should have all known secrets but as I have yet to explore the vault, the clouds or the base it is lacking in those areas. Its also not a perfect representation and made in paint so don't expect anything pretty.
avatar
msfrog: I can't add much to the map, it covers the areas I explored. The clouds span more to the right, they are reachable from the altar and go even further. Left of the Twisted Caverns is dense rock, snow is only at the top left of that area, so left of the fungal caverns might only be dense rock, too.

The Twisted caverns seem to have only enemies and puddles of potions inside, I explored it almost full and found nothing else.
We do know that there is at least 10 orbs since the cement tablet is marked 10. We know about 6, and theres a great chance theres an orb in the clouds, vault and base/ boss. So 1 orb is very well hidden or theres 2 for 1 of those areas. For the Twisted Caverns, its marked because the cement tablet strongly hints that mixing liquids is needed for a secret and no where else is better to do so. There is a mistake on the map now that I doublecheck, below the Fungal Caverns should be diggable rock into the snow area and not Temple Brick.

avatar
msfrog: Btw., I had a look at the translation file. One section tells about something that helps beating the cloud area, maybe there is an item for that.
Using a wand that double triggers cement and water at a distance would make the cloud area doable (make terrain alongside it). Unless you mean something else.

Yesterdays patchnote says, there are 2 new secrets. I already checked the left wall next to the sea, there is nothing in the lower part (I climbed high enough, that I was able to jump off the wall and land on the edge of the snow area by pressing right).

Could also mean lava + water -> gets you to the orb room...

You can walk on the clouds, but I never managed to kill even a single enemy there. I thought the text might hint to some kind of weapon?

Pretty sure they just have a ton of HP. Maybe around 2k or more. It took many many sawblades to take 1 down anyway. The real danger was being inside the clouds, it shouldn't be hard to kill them 1 by 1 with a powerful enough wand and a land making wand would let you engage them at your own pace.
New patch added a worm crystal under each Holy Mountain shop. Breaking it gives the message "you don't feel safe", but nothing else. Likely breaking all will do something (summon boss?). The God's anger trigger has changed again, just breaking the temple open will anger them now so be very careful when breaking the worm crystal.

Edit: Nevermind, it summons a medium sized worm. The patch notes were likely very literal about "less reasons for the gods to be angry" and so the temple breaking changes were reverted. It still seems quite likely that breaking all crystals will do something.

I now can confirm that the Twisted Caverns have nothing of interest. I explored it completely, but there is no loot at all. Maybe it is just another way around the giant tree.

I also explored the magic temple completely, nothing but the orb there, too.

That was a great run, I had nice wands and > 400 health. And then an angry god appeared, no idea why. This is really annoying :/

It seems it were just my first few runs that had no worms. I'm seeing worms in most runs now and since the temple breaking changes were reverted it makes it much easier to get angry gods. Its possible that breaking worm crystals affects future runs or something.

Same as what I saw. I did find a full health regeneration in the dark area in between last time I explored it, and theres more tunnels in the dark area than I remember being there. Unsure if it was changed or just my memory being bad. The Fungal Caverns seem slightly different as well, at the very least I found two new hive types (wasps and the little ball enemies) that I never saw before and there were pockets of honey.

Overall my item/ perk luck has been horrible after my first few runs since the patch so haven't made much progress. Might just have to get used to playing with the starting wand =/

Edit: Also started seeing enemies spawn with wands lately (not just picking them up). I assume they are player ghosts as I am 95% sure that a wand they had could only have been my old wand (saw blade, saw and cement seems unlikely to generate randomly).

Just did a "pacifist run" for the extra chests, the perk alter spawned water instead of blood along with the chest. Will pay attention to any other details. Think I am done with this build. Just as I was picking my 2nd perk and on my way out, a worm dug straight down. Next temple, I tried teleporting to juke the god and repeatedly teleported back to the portal up above in a loop.

For me it is not THAT often to have worms. Sometimes I find their tunnels, but not the actual worm. But when they spawn an angry god it is just annoying. You hardly have any chance against them, unless you have very good wands and / or are lucky enough that they get stuck somewhere.

As I stated earlier, the dark area seems to be slightly different in every run. But it always contains only 2 HP orbs and a healing item, no more. If there are more tunnels, they are just dead ends.

This doesn't deal enough damage in later levels...

Hm, I didn't notice this yet. Whenever I found an enemy with a wand, there was an empty "altar" nearby. But wands can also spawn without that altar, e.g. from chests.

I find worms every level, at least I see the earthquakes generated by worms nearby. I've started waiting for them to get far away before taking the portal, unsure if it helps.

You can usually outrun the gods, but fleeing into the snow area or the base is very dangerous. A little invisibium goes a long way to slip past the mobs and the god will get sidetracked fighting them. But you don't always have invisibium and theres a good chance it will get nerfed at some point anyways.. Teleportium in the temple is not advised, it takes you to the previous level more often than not.

Might just be that I haven't explored the dark area that often but that was my first time seeing a regeneration outside of the temple.

Its been working wonders for me so far: Clear the mines without shooting enemies (double gold kills) if theres no wands and with any enemy luck I'll have enough gold for the next two shops. If I do get a decent wand, just play like normal. Just been very frustrated taking it slow just to die to nonsense like angry gods and playing fast and loose has done wonders for my mindset. For example, just found out ice field is a god tier early game spell since the majority of early enemies can be perma stunlocked with it, letting you set up pacifist kills easy.

I've seen them maybe every 2nd or 3rd run (I tend to explore a ton). They look just like the player sprite, but a darker pallet and just float. They always have a wand and theres usually no empty pedestal nearby. Even when there is, you can identify the pedestal since it will bleed when it's wand is picked up by the player. If its a potion, the liquid will be nearby in plentiful amounts.

Outrunning was hard, we didn't want to let me pass. When I finally made it through, the turn I took was a dead end and the god came chasing me. Plus it was the level after the jungle, so the enemies were quite hard to fight, too. I was just very unlucky :(

Yes, it is the only healing item I found so far in a level.

Ah, I know what you mean. I thought these were normal enemies, but I just had a look at the progression screen. It seems, they don't even have an entry there. I'm quite sure I already killed a few of them, so they should be there. So you may be right, that these are ghosts from previous runs.
I think at this point brute force exploration is pointless. I assume each area has a secret hidden away, but are intentionally absurdly large enough to make finding them impossible. You could never fully explore 'The Lake' but it would be easy to use it to hide an area, for example. I believe this design is intentional, the dev should expect people to dig around everywhere once they have done a few runs. Theres a reason heaven and hell are infinite and both sides of the world contain perks that will kill the player, or annoy them to death if they have immunity. Brute forcing every area so far has been pointless, except for the area underneath the desert.

The main thing I have supporting this theory, is that beating the "end" boss opens a portal to 'The Work'. The endless abyss below the world (under the extremely dense rock) is that same Work, thus it should be possible to find the first ending without beating that boss if you knew exactly where it was within The Work (would likely still need to trigger that boss though). This should be a hint, just like everything else in the game seems to be.

So the dev wants us to play by the games rules. To use the hints provided to find the secrets. And such secrets hint that theres a good end that doesn't kill the player if the player learns their craft. But the tablets are the only concrete hints and they are very vague. There does seem to be writing in places, but I don't feel up to cracking the code. I guess I'll finish exploring everything fully, at least everything thats not behind extremely dense rock anyway. Maybe 1 of the remaining tablets would be the remaining piece of the puzzle.

You may be right, but there is also a good chance, that the game is not complete by now. It is still early access and there might be content, that is not where it is supposed to be in the full game or maybe it is just not there right now. The essence of light for example has been added just a short while ago. And the area beneath the desert is so big but nearly empty, I don't think this is intended for the full game.

Your theory of the good ending misses one point: Everything you find depends on the seed of the world, there is nothing except the orbs, that is always there and always in the same place. So we might have missed something or it is not yet in the game.

Unfortunately the stone tablets have not yet been translated to German and I have problems understanding what they exactly say. This "old fashioned" English is a bit hard for me.

This is my biggest gripe with the game so far: sometimes the game just doesn't give you the right tools. Only 4 wand slots, most wands are useless without editing and edit wands everywhere being 1 of the rarer perks makes getting the spells you'll need to the next level fairly unlikely even when they do show up. And the dev seems to want to make it harder to reuse the wand editing room, so good chance that will be impossible too at some point.

I've been trying to get a fast infinite digging wand for ages but the pieces just never fall into place.

True, its possible that all these areas are just sneakpeaks that will be content later down the line. But then the tablets strongly hint theres more to do. Maybe its just the ending being easy and unsatisfying compared to the rest of the game makes me want to believe theres more to it.

Huh, reusing is possible? I tried to do this, but as soon as the ceiling crumbled, I wasn't able to edit the wands anymore. I really wish it would at least be possible to strip spells of the wands and store them, this would increase the chance of making a useable wand a lot. Most of the stuff is just crap and the few useful spells are separated in too many wands.

I hope you're right.
I just found an ultimate weapon for close combat AND digging. The latest patch brought a new "projectile", the laser sabre. It generates a short beam of green light, that cuts through everything (yes, even extremely dense rock). Use it in a wand with high mana and high mana recharge together with a spread spell (2 or 3 is best). Now you can dig relatively fast through every material. This combination also makes it devastating to enemies. The laser deals 11 damage, but with the extremely high fire rate it kills most enemies instantly. Plus, you can kill them through walls, as the beam just passes through.

And I also have a warning... Never ever pick up the teleportitis perk. It will teleport you away whenever you take damage. This is quite useful during the game, but it is most annoying when you fight the boss. There are big open spaces filled with lava above the boss area and you will most likely be ported right into it, when you receive damage.
