Buyers, beware: Hello Games abandoned the systems!

The current version displays the pop up with the said message, disables multiplayer, explicitly saying that the systems stated on the GOG page are no more, and it in-practice demands Vulkan 1.3 or higher to work as expected (found after writing the review). This started from the Waypoint update.

If you want to be sure the game will be stable or work, be on Endurance. In my view, GOG should provide the version for the older systems or/and state that the only system the developers do fully support is Windows 10. Additionally all versions from the Beyond update do not work on non-Vulkan GPUs or the GPUs not working with it well (i.g., not all features). This means the minimum system requirements are invalid and are very misleading. The so-call Next update must be provided by GOG too (with Endurance) or the description changed to take care of the people if the developers can't do right, do not respect the customers from the day 0 to the last day as a good game developer must. Right now, sadly, I do not see both GOG / Hello Games doing the job professionally.

Before anyone falsely state "Windows 7 is not supported by Microsoft," that's not true (supported in 2022, see: Extended Security Updates), and Windows 8.1 is still formally not at End of Life. Myself is on Linux, not affected, but I do not like what the developers did towards the customers and I wanted to highlight that. The post is created to hopefully help a humble 7/8.1 user make a more informed decision and avoid any mistakes on money spending.

The store page says...
System: Windows 7 / 8 /10 (64-bit versions)

So it better support Windows 7 or this is false advertising. Further I bought a product that was working on Windows 7 and if they removed the version that does then they are now withholding the product from me.
That's not even the problem, they removed my cloud games. My last local save is 11/13/2022.
Which is days of game behind, my save is disabled in ver. 4.15. Reverted to 4.10, no dice, so basically disabled play for anyone not running Winblows 10.
Has anyone tested version 4.20 (Interceptor) on WIndows 7 or Windows 8?

I'll test it, didn't know it existed. Can't play anyways, no progress is saved since last year.

CONFIRMED ! Update 4.20 fixed the game, I can now save Restore Points. THANKS !

I get a warning when I start the game using Windows 7, that multiplayer won't work anymore on Win 7 / 8.
Offline gameplay however works fine.
I have bad luck. I cannot run the game under windows 7 (with nVidia GTX 1070).

When I select my savegame, and after the floating stars, the game stop responding and crashes showing the following message:

Nombre de la aplicación con errores: NMS.exe, versión: 37304.0.0.0, marca de tiempo: 0x642d7371

I am not sure why the game is trying to use nvogl64.dll, as the game uses vulkan drivers.

The last version of the game that works for me was 4.08.

Looks like a driver setup problem to me, turn off OpenGL maybe ?

Do you have an nVidia or AMD graphic card? My graphic card is nVidia GTX 1070

What version of graphics driver are you using? I'm using 472.12, the last driver for Windows 7/8. Drivers after that version are only security patches and doesn't include any fix or modifications.

Have you made any additional modifications to your system to make the game work for you, perhaps by modifying the Vulkan drivers? As far as I know, NMS from 4.15 version onwards uses Vulkan 1.3 version, that is only supported by windows 10/11. Maybe this is why the game is trying to use OpenGL instead of Vulkan in my system. I don't know how to force the game to use Vulkan instead of OpenGL.
AMG GPU here but I have an OpenGL On/Off selector in the 2019 driver.
I bet Nvidia has it too.

That may be the main reason why you can still run NMS on windows 7. Although AMD withdrew support for windows 7 before nVidia did, it is quite possible that their drivers allow the new Vulkan instructions.

On the other hand, nVidia control panel has not the option to disable OpenGL (at least, I can't find that option). I only can choose what graphic card is selected to perform OpenGL instructions (automatic or your preferred grahic card).

The main question is, is anyone with an nvidia graphics card able to run NMS on windows 7?

Doing a little research myself I see team green fraked up again. Builtin OpenGL without a switch.
OpenGL support is not about Vulkan but about offering support to older DX-9 & 10 as OpenGL worked faster and was more responsive than those.

Also are you running NMS update 4.20 ?

Thanks a lor for your research ;)

I haved tried version 4.20 and even 4.21, but with the same issue. The last version that works for me is 4.08 (the last update before Fractal was released)

I have checked the configuration files for any clue or way to force the game using Vulkan instead of OpenGL but without success.

Can you confirm what patches you applied. I am currently running NMS on Windows 7 with patch 4.14. The 4.15 patch is saying not supported by my system. So I'm wondering if you were able to apply 4.15 or how else you got to 4.20.

(I have an AMD card)

I always receive a message about online mode saying that the game is not supported o win7/8 and will be disabled the connection, but you can ignore it because the game is running in the taskbar of Windows. Is this your message?

Since my last working update (4.08), I have tried all patches released since then. No luck.
