I use windows 7 and run no man's sky just fine. as long as I don't minimize it runs smoothly lag free. Now at startup it minimizes for this stupid pop up stating win 7 and 8 arn't supported any more. So it framerates very badly. I don't see an option to stop this. The only way to stop framerating is to restart and never alt-tab. But with this new stupid news popup about win7 and 8 doing it's thing. Does anyone else know how to remove this crap?

Let me say, that I FEEL VERY CHEATED about no longer support from Win 7 & 8. Not sure which is worse, them being that greedy or lazy.

I used to use a window closer for a shareware video encoder back on Windows XP but unfortunately I have recently had a massive clear out of cd's and dvd's full of software dating back to win 3.1 and no longe have it. You may be able to find a window closer like this one, but as I don't have window 7 I cat tell you if it will work.

Odd that you start having performance problems after Alt-tab'ing. Is that a thing in games? Not sure I've run into that quirk. I've had games that wouldn't recover from switching tasks, so maybe similar.

But to keep on not-answering your question, I can't think of a way of preventing an app from popping up a msgbox like that. I can imagine software that'd poll for and auto-close windows with certain titles or whatnot, but I think the msgbox would still take focus just from coming into being, even if it's just for a millisecond.

I wonder if there's any software that could create an env that looked enough like Win10 to fool nms.exe?

Not in every game, but definitely in NMS. I thought it was some strange interaction with Wine (I play it under Linux) - but it seems like it's not just me.

In any case, I did find a solution of sorts - alt-tab again, give it a second or two, then go back to NMS. I have no idea why, but the performance on my system goes back to what it should be when you do that. Something I found myself doing a lot, because every time I found a Gaia world candidate to call home, I had to switch to the text file which had all my notes.

At least, that's what it used to do. I haven't played since 3.91 (back in July 2022) and only found this thread because I thought I should do a little reading before getting back into it.
Hi,

Maybe run it in borderless window?
