Patch 5.53 hasn't been made available on GOG yet but there is an Experimental Branch patch for PC crashes. I could not readily find more details about the PC crashes. The 3xperimental patch was released shortly after the 5.53 patch was issued (except GOG players) so it seems to be fatal to the game.

Since 5.54 was also issued although only to consoles, it might be better to wait for 5.55 or higher.
