Hi guys; I did buy the game some time ago, and since it was a train-wreck, I did play a bit and let it be.

The new updates with bases and land vehicles didn't really push the envelope for me, but the new update with the story, seems like the right direction for this game; considering the 300 gazillion planets where nothing happens on it.

Now, I have few questions:

- the game is always offline; I can't upload any data I discover; how do I fix that?

- The controls with mouse and keyboard are off; while going slow there is some sort of control; but when entering the planet atmosphere, the ship won't respond anymore; is there any way to fix controls? changing sensitivity is not fixing the issue, since it break the "correct" controls when going at low speed. Is there a way to use HOTAS with this game?

- What do you actually do with frigates, beside grab the logs at the center console on the impact site? I did try a way to get inside it but it seems that there is no way to do so.

Overall I am enjoying the first part of the game; I did spend 5 hours yesterday without even noticing that I was playing for so long; and the fact that you get missions that help you progress and find stuff that you need, is helping to get a sort of "completion" feeling; the game overall is still grinding on planets for resources and most of the planets are the same, but it is not as bad as before. Maybe in 4 years this game will be what was promised at launch...who knows.

No idea. Are you running it through Galaxy? Are you logged in and all that?

This is caused by the developers wanting "realistic" turbulence, I guess. It's not very user friendly or fun, I think, but I guess that's just a difference of opinion between them and me.
"Working as intended", I'd say, if their intentions were to annoy me.
In short: If you figure this out, let me know...

Nope.
Well, I guess you could poke around in the settings for the HOTAS to make it emulate a controller, or whatever, but that would completely defeat the purpose.
Also, imagine walking around on the ground using a HOTAS. Nothankyou.
Would be nice if there was a *third* column in the controls, for assigning some of the functions to a joystick/HOTAS.

Do a scan. There are buried treasures. I don't want to spoil it for you, but even if the first fiew you find are not that great, keep doing it.

Well, they're going in the right direction. I was afraid they'd add microtransactions or something, so at least they're not actively and willfully breaking things.
@OP,

Online/Offline:
In the GOG version you need to press R in the main interface menu (or discovery menu) to toggle online/offline, but your firewall must accept the game connection first.

Controls:
In the new update you need to constantly press W to fly your ship otherwise it will come to halt. That's new, and it's kinda nasty :( I don't know how this is with controllers, other than you will be able to look left/right also.

As DemmyDemon notes, that's as per design. You get control back by just bumping the "go back/slow down" key/button. I usually just scream in until the terrain starts to generate and then slow down and level out.

There is a way to use a standard joystick as an alternate to the mouse/keyboard. At least, it works here with a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, which is a pretty standard rig. I don't have the whole setup instructions handy but look around the web for: x360ce "No Man's Sky". Works for me although you'll find the usual gang of "Bogux" "Don't f'ing work" etc complaints.

I just have the trigger and alt trigger (to switch between beam and photon) mapped and only use it in dogfights. Otherwise, I'm okay with the mouse for normal pooping around.

CAUTION! If the joystick is not centered or if it moves just a little bit (thanks, cat) then control automatically switches to the joystick. I need to poke mine occasionally so it behaves. The throttle keys still work as long as the joystick throttle lever is at full minimum (not centered). Also, if the joystick throttle isn't at minimum, the multitool keeps firing when walking around.

Sounds like a PITA but it is useful in dogfights.
You can not upload things and log to server if you play without Galaxy.
