Quite a lot.

No. Broadly speaking, as regards online connection you have three options. Offline completely, online but with multiplayer turned off, and online with multiplayer.

Offline completely puts you alone in the universe with the game characters. You do not see discoveries which other players have made and your discoveries are not visible to other players. There are some quests and associated items that you need to be online to initiate. Those are typically meaningful once you've progressed somewhat in the game (you're busy doing other things for quite a while) and there are work-arounds that are discussed in more detail in other threads.

Online with multiplayer turned off allows you to connect to the "Discovery Services" where your discoveries are entered and other player's discoveries are visible to you. Bases which you build and upload are visible to other players and you can visit other player's bases. Things like Nexus quests and Living Ships enabled without needing work-arounds.

Onlne with full multiplayer adds the ability to see and interact with other players.

Thanks!! That's a lot of useful information, didn't know there was 3 ways to play and such implications.
Might give it some more though before buying!

Whether online multiplayer is attractive to you or not (it isn't for me), the game does feature Community missions with goals/rewards for completion as part of the multiplayer aspect. The rewards for completing individual missions is a small amount of a type of currency that may be used to purchase cosmetic items for your character, star ship, or base. Through ongoing community participation by collectively completing a large number of missions, milestones are completed that add new cosmetic items to the shop and are then available for purchase.

The only problem I have with the game is the speed but I have older machine i5 3470 @ 3.6 with 1070 TI, the film grain is the only problem I have with this cool game.

Hot dang, I had no idea you needed to be and do alot of online crap to get the living ship... well that sucks!! Why do devs constantly insist on forcing people to be online and do group missions to progress, man that stuff is annoying as hell...

if you play offline and want to do daily nexus quests and living ship, follow this tutorial:

Thanks for the suggestion, I have to admit I am not dying to have to edit my save file to get the full effect of the game, but should the need arrive for me to play then I know about this workaround, thank you kindly for that :)

your welcome :)
Of course its not the best solution, but the only other way is to play online.

Indeed, hopefully only for now, I am counting on them patching it out later :)

I did do a quick check on the savefile, the setup is not the same as in the video (Json editor part) so I assume the save game editor is doing some sort of thingamagic behind the scenes to translate, I am not desperate enough for now to install java and a 3rd party solution to workaround this :)

I think it is what 50% off now, right?

I say if you are not strapped for cash then go for it, you can play it fully offline and it runs pretty good on my computer (i7, nvidia 1070, 16gig ram).

Personally I really enjoyed the game so far, just the thought of jumping on to a spaceship on a planet and seamlessly fly into space and to the next planet is quite awesome to me. ~30$ is like a trip to the movies which is over in 3 hours with everything so if you put the cost into that perspective it is not very steep. I would not consider this to be a fast paced game, so if slower paced games with building and mining etc is not you forte then maybe you should give this a skip, the story is interesting though imo.

using the save editor is .. well .. save ;)
They won't patch it. All quicksilver related things are ment to be online only. This game isn't designed for offline-only gameplay.

Perhaps, originally it was for the most part offline only if I remember correctly, uploading discoveries was the only online aspect to it, the multiplayer aspect has not been there from the start, right?

But maybe they won´t patch it out, maybe they will, I have seen crazier things happen.

The thing is, they added first quicksilver items years ago and never patched that for offline yet. So i wouldn't count on it. But i would wish they update it, too.

I see, I have never paid much attention to the few quicksilver items available offline, I always thought they were cosmetic only(?), however this time the item is pretty much The latest expansion, this is why I am hoping they make it available to all their players.
