Looking forward to this game as well. Not getting my hopes up yet. I was very excited about Elite, but after finally buying it and playing it, I was hoghly disappointed with it. So disappointed that I returned it in the end and asked for my money back.
Multiplayer? Don't get your hopes up, there's none. The only multiplayer you will get is to share your discoveries with oither and you see theirs. The rest is so vague that I by now believe there just isn't anything else. Constant statements like "you could meet another player but it will be rare or "the cnaces of meeting someone else are pretty much zero" have lead me to believe that's all just marketing, in realiity there is no real multiplayer at all. They just don't want to say that out loud, since many will turn their backs on the game. This way they give people hope, but they know it's not going to happen, since the game isn't build for multiplayer, besides the whole sharing discoveries part.
