I don't like metagaming, so always appreciate games that put needed information in the game somewhere. I know I could find the info in the wiki, but is there an in-game source for how to refine Phosphorus? It seems like the Catalogu should include how to refine and not just "go look for it."
I also don't know of an in-game way to learn the various crafting combinations (such as that 2 Dioxite & 1 Ferrite make Phosphorus), besides trial and error. There might be one, but I've played hundreds of hours now without it. <g>

Thus I turn regularly to one of the the independent recipe sites to learn them. Thank goodness those sites are there.

You explicitly asked for -in-game, so I won't assume you aren't familiar with the recipe sites. But if you aren't, I can post a link to the one I use, if interested.
As I understand it, some of the lack of in-game information is intentional. Your avatar awakens with a busted multitool, a damaged suit, and no memory of how they got there. The three main quest lines (base building, Artemis, and ATLAS) introduce important lore and provide some blueprints -- but not everything.

The devs expected the community to work togther, to pool information, and for the hive-mind to come up with their own answers and resources.

This has largely been successful. The (unofficial) No Man's Sky wiki is probably the best place to start for most questions. Refining discussed here.

And, there's a smartphone app! (of course ;-)
Thanks for the replies. I was just hoping it was in-game somewhere. Overall it's a small issue, and the information is "out there," but it should be in the catalog or as purchasable recipes, or something. Thanks again!
