Hello! I thank all of you in advance for any help you can give me.

Been away from the game (NMS) for a couple months; tried opening again, and can't do it. Instead, I get the following error message when trying to start: "NMS.exe - Entry point not found. The procedure entry point EventSetInformation could not be located in the dynamic link library ADVAPI32.dll"

Could anyone help me? I wonder if I have to replace a damaged ADVAPI32.dll file, and if so, would it be in the Windows System 32 folder or something--and if so how would I go about doing it?

Again, thank everyone in advance for any help you can give me.

Why not just use Galaxy to check installation and re-install if necessary.

Thank you for your advice. I will try this--but won't I lose all my game progress? I don't want to lose my saved game(s)--so what can I do to keep that from happening?

Thanks again!

P.S. By the way, I did try the Verify / Repair option, and it told me that it found no problems.

You can reinstall and restore your old saves afterwards.

Manually back up your saves and you can then put them back if you have to reinstall, have an in-game problem, just don't like where you are heading, etc.

Path is C:/users/{insert user name}/AppData/Roaming/HelloGames/NMS/DefaultUser

The standard suggestion is to make periodic backups of saves and you can simply copy these files back into the directory listed above. You may want to put the backed up save files into uniquely named folders if you have key points that you might want to return to.

Good Luck.

Thank you very much! I will try this today.

Well, here's the situation... I uninstalled the game, and then reinstalled it and rebooted system. Tried to open it again and I got the same message: "NMS.exe - Entry point not found. The procedure entry point EventSetInformation could not be located in the dynamic link library ADVAPI32.dll".

So, unless anyone else can offer my further advice, I'm beginning to suspect that this is a Windows/system32 issue, and I need to replace my old ADVAPI32.dll with a functional one. Only I can't do it because I need TrustedInstaller status to be able to have the permission do it.

If anyone can help me with this, I would greatly appreciate it. As it stands now, I can't even install a copy of NMS to my computer that will work. Thank you in advance for any help anyone can give me.

Scott.

UPDATE AND FOLLOW UP... After doing research online, I took a chance on a solution that was offered, and downloaded a MicroSoft update to Windows 7. I installed it, and after some scary moments, everything came back. I now have No Man's Sky back, although it is now updated, with new graphics, etc., and it will take me a bit of time to get used to playing it this way. Thanks everyone for all the help you offered. It was much appreciated.
