Has anyone been attacked by predatory animals ?

They seem to be ignoring me, I've seen them attack and kill other animals but I can walk straight past them and they don't take a blind bit of notice .

is this a bug ?

I don't know. I do know that I don't miss being hounded (no pun intended) by those damn cave crabs and their four (or six or two) legged furry friends.

It's *possible* that the behaviour is intentional. After all, here's this Traveler dude wandering around the neighborhood who doesn't look like any of the usual prey animals. It may just be that normal predators figure we're not good to munch on.

Those biological monstrosities guarding
whispering eggs
surely don't hesitate to attack. Those things swarm and they're mean. I "died" in-game for the first time in a lonnnng time.

Depends. Could be just alien predators that don`t attack anything they don`t know (like you). Keep exploring other planets and see if all predators never attack.
Are they big or small compared to you? Do we have new animal behaviors that require we are seen as a prey as well as their normal native prey on planet? Or it could be a bug, there are many of those it seems ;)
I've visited multiple planets and seen many predator species of all sizes and shape and not one of them has taken the slightest bit of notice of me.

It seems pretty certain that they no longer attack the player, I think if this was a feature it would have been mentioned in the patch notes.
I've seen other people mention this too. So it could be a bug?

What happens if you attack one of these predator types first? Do they then attack you? If so maybe this is just new deliberate behavior? As an 'anomaly' in NMS maybe other creatures just do not know what to make of us (threat or dinner?).

A bit like those 'white' brown bears that live on an island of the west coast of Canada that do not react to human presence and behave very relaxed around humans? They have remained isolated from humans for long enough they behave unlike other bears on the mainland etc.

Well some predators should attack regardless of who you are while some should ignore you- it`s a huge universe with a variety of creatures, there should be some attackers of anything. I doubt a T-Rex would ignore a Human being if he somehow travelled back in time.

I did come across one `predator` but it ran away when I approached.... hmmm. I will test on more planets.
Predators will attack if you shoot them whereas other animals will just run away, so maybe it is intentional.

This is on version 1.52 btw. I didn't test it on either of the earlier versions.

1.52 already?

Well if it`s intentional that`s crappy. Makes no logical sense that NO predator would ever attack you first, especially in a huge universe of differing planets. Anyway, still testing, not found enough planets with predators on for me to be certain this is the case.

Are you on hardcore mode?

No need for them to ruin it for the normal chill experience players, (No, I don't mean creative mode) I mean; we have enough to contend with the sentinels popping up/spawning at the very resource that you're mining!

That`s a good point. I`m not on Hardcore. I started Relaxed mode to get back into the swing of things. Well this wasn`t how Relaxed was before; they still attacked you!

Guess I`m going to have a to start a completely new game now on Hardcore and see if they attack. I can`t have it that predators don`t sometimes attack.

Will report back.

p.s. Sentinels are annoying. They are now everywhere.

Less annoying, and more infuriating if you ask me; especially when doing base building as it costs well over 1000 pieces of resources to build a simple one-room base with storage! That's including the doorway and ramp which you cannot find as the blueprint is buried in the menu list, you actually need to use up blueprints in order to advance the menu items for fuck's sake!

I had to fuckin' use a save editor in order to get a ramp, plus it takes the edge off of mining as you don't really need to mine nearly enough bits as you normally would! Would be better for someone to mod in a higher yield for resources instead, as the sentinels are most likely hard-coded due to them being scripted little pricks!

You think they`re bad there- try Survival. Man they`re horrible. It was tough enough getting my ship togther and taking off. First world I landed on - Immediately hostile sentinels. Couldn`t take off, not enough fuel. They were tough, took too much effort trying to shoot them down with my super-noob gun. Had to run around like crazy. Hid for absolute ages in a cave, but they would never go away or stop looking. Had to get out run again. Finally got the fuel- took off. landed in another part of the world.

Bingo! Two sentinels! Straight away they attacked! jumped in took off away from the planet. In space attacked by two sentinel ships straightaway- couldn`t run. Had to fight. managed to kill them by flying back to the planet where it was much easier.

Flew back into space- 2 more sentinel ships again! killed them! 2 more! killed them! All the time my ship getting more damaged- eventually they killed me.

Not even got close to seeing if predators attack me yet!

That was really frustrating.

Well, you COULD say that predators attacked you... Metal ones that is! xD

Makes me appreciate the normal version as the chill version sounds much more fun to me, I'm not really an adrenaline gamer anymore; age has taken its toll it seems! I suppose they were cranked up for multiplayers as they would not be much of a threat with a few friends by your side!
Got attacked only a few times. I'm playing on survival but I don't think that matters. It seems even agressive creatures generally leave you alone, these are the exceptions:

- Sentinels are a constant threat when they're agressive and attack regularly

- Shooting humming eggs, They hatch some nasty creatures which attack on sight

- Once by some creature with around eight mushroom like heads. This creature was hanging around me before and it ran away scared. After I while I was gathering Di-Hydrogen and it suddenly rushed at me and killed me with one blow
