I found this article, while googling for something. It kinda made me sad.

"In a recent interview No Man’s Sky‘s chief architect Sean Murray discussed the use of real physics in the game, commenting that things like the day-night cycle are based on the actual rotation and curvature of the planet rather than being faked with a skybox as they would be in other games. Murray revealed that the team has made a number of compromises with its physics model for purely aesthetic reasons, however, such as allowing moons to orbit much closer than should be possible in Newtonian physics. The developers also had to fudge the physics of atmospheric scattering to produce planets with green atmospheres. No Man’s Sky is currently in testing and is scheduled for a June 2016 release.

... does NMS has lifeless barren rocks without atmosphere you can walk on or just gas giants? I only have played for a couple of hours on the planet I started with but what I saw so far in youtube videos and on screens kind of looked like every planet has plant and animal life with starbases being the only distinct difference in style and feeling.

An "Yes" would had been the actual surprise :P

Right now I assume that every planet I visit would be more or less feel the same. My currenct stance to NMS is wait a few weeks and observe.

There are some barren planets with no flora or fauna, usually moons.

AS for gas giants, well even if they did have them, we couldnt land on them anyway, and if you tried you`d just fall further and further into the gas until you were crushed by the pressure.

Oh, good :) A universe full of planets with all kind of life would be... strange.

Of course I would not land on a gas planet (..ok, once. For the laughter and to see what happens). But I could imagine it an interesting place to have ship to ship combat.

I do believe these things should be in. Flying into a gas planet could be interesting. Even have a real sun so you can try flying into it just to burn up. Pointless, but it would be nice attention to detail.

Whats pointless in luring a big group of attackers with lousy shieldings to burn up into the sun because otherwise they would zerg you down in a spacefight? :)

Well, yea, possible I guess.
I'm pretty sure Nasa would disagree with Sean.
