Ok,

I know virtually nothing about VR headsets. Since NMS VR is coming out, what is actually needed to play the game in Virtual Reality??? I've read enough to see that PSVR (Play Station Virtual Reality) RIFTt and VIVE will be supported, but don't really even know what those are...

I know that a good VR headset is anywhere from $500 - $1,000 and like most other people, there is absolutely NO way I can afford antything along those lines...

So, what (if anything) would I get if I bought the cardboard headsets that you use your smart phhone with (I have a Samsung S8) Would I even be able to use one of those with NMS VR?

Any info on this would be GREATLY appreciated

(and please I'm no Astro Physicist, so in your answer, please use layman terms!)

Thanx,

Dennis

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you need a VR headset to play VR games. They require a dedicated gaming system on a PC or console to run. Just like you can't run a full PC game on your phone, you won't be able to run NMS, let alone NMS in VR on your Samsung.

I also agree that they are REALLY expensive, and while I would also like to play NMS in VR, until prices drop considerably, I won't be...
Like Velgor said, you need a pretty damn good PC to run VR comfortably and a proper VR headset. The phone versions won't do.

And on top of this we still don't know if we can trust Hello Games to release the VR support on GOG on the 14th...

Well, GOG's Advertising it for release here on the 14th, so there shouldn't be that much doubt about it.

THe Playstation PS4/Pro and their VR headset is another option...

First, forget cardboard anything. Forget the ones you use with your phone. They have nothing like the power you`ll require for games like No Man Sky.

You need a decent computer to run it, ie a GOOD graphics card nothing less than a 1060 6 gig and a good cpu, I`d say, but if you can get a 1080 2nd hand, much better.

You need the VR Headset and sometimes satelites so the headset knows where you are in your space for tracking like the HTC VIVE. Some headsets need no satellites such as the Oculus Rift S.

I would recommend the Rift S as it has a pretty good resolution and needs no Satellites as it uses `inside-out` tracking which works pretty well.

You will also need some room space although some games allow you to work from a chair...

The Oculus Rift S is very good and is £400 new which I believe is around $330 US (or maybe they just kept to $400). So maybe that will suit you?
