nageth: The news post says no multiplayer and they'll get it to us hopefully later in the year (heavily implied that we will only be able to play with other people with the GoG version).
Really? I hope this gives a shit storm, so we get a steam key for free for all GoG players...

All my friends are on Steam... I can't remember why I bought it on GoG on release... but for sure, that was the last title on GoG with multiplayer that I bought here.

By the sound of it, because they are a small studio and because they have probably have no experience implementing the Galaxy SDK for MP... they need GOG to help them do it.

Doesn't sound like their is any technical reason they can't do it though.

Multiplayer often relies on tools from platform owners these days. GoG doesn't really have those tools (or as easy of tools) at the moment and Valve has no reason to let other stores use those tools. It sucks but it is at least understandable. They should have made this clear from the start. Instead they Hello Gamed it up again by implying the impossible. (Although in all fairness everyone seems to be screwing up in a very similar way such as the Fortnite Sony nonsense.)

Yes they do. What do you think Gwent runs on? The MP infastructure they built via Galaxy for that reason. This sounds like more of a "we need GOG's help impementing it because we have never used it before" which is probably true. Not many devs are familar with Galaxy's SDK yet because it's still really new.

See my edit (made just before you posted). I'm not a developer but I was intending to say how obviously GoG's tools are not at the same spot or as easy to develop with for a small team (you can't just point to one game that is effectively first party). I don't like Valve all that much but they've been in this "game" for much much longer (remember the outrage when GoG first announced Galaxy and people didn't want all the new social features). I would not be surprised if there are performance issues with the new SDK for something as intensive as having multiple people interact in a 3D world (Gwent's networking needs are no where near the same).

Welp the only reason i cared about this game again was for the multiplayer. No wonder they put off the announcement to as late as possible. My friend and I both bought it on GoG really looked forward to playing together.

What a anticlimax.

They knew this the whole time, but decided to slip it in at the last second letting us get our hopes up with the rest of the community. I would have cared less if they where up front earlier, I would have just shrugged and said I'll wait, now I feel used.

There are other games on GOG using the Galaxy MP infastructure with a 3D world, see Absolver. A lot of kinks probably got worked out then. Lol

And since HG is a small studio, it wasn't a priority for them to have MP ready for a smaller platform. Put resources where they can be of most use. Reasonable. Will the MP here be GOG Galaxy only? Probably. I'm OK with that, since I'm not interested in MP. But that's my own selfish opinion and I know many others were really looking forward to it. Hopefully something will done to reasonably accommodate them.

Never said it was impossible. Said why we were seeing a delay. I think you're getting tripped up and over emphasizing my first sentence that I meant to be addressing potential feature differences (I'm purely speculating that Steam and GOG don't have feature parity for their SDK, if they have feature parity I appologize for that). I assume that the Steam and GOG services aren't at the same place because frankly in a lot of places they aren't (see the frequent problems with release day patches on GOG). In the future you might want to use a more apple to apple comparison in your argument because it really sounded like you were saying because a card game had MP a third/first (or whatever it is now) game can too.

Frankly, this feels a bit like Monster Hunter World's huge PC delay. MP is hard.

I'm fine with everything except them waiting to the very last second to let everyone know we wont get the full update (multiplayer).

There is buzz when a new game or game changing update comes out, news feeds are talking about the game again people are excited to play. It was inconsiderate at least not to just say hey sorry GoG customers we wont get your multiplayer worked out in time and let us feel so excluded at this highly social time.

Its a small thing maybe, making plans with my friend to play together fri night, seeing the community active and anticipating my extremely small part and having those plans dashed, but it could have been avoided with a bit more respect on their side.

I'm pretty ticked off, mostly by the lack of communication. If they had been forward with the fact that there wouldn't be multiplayer yet I would have been fine throwing a few more bucks at them to play the Steam version now.

But since they decided to be mum on the issue for absolutely no reason I waited for hours for the GOG version for no reason.

It's a bit ridiculous and I'm upset at both GOG and Hello for this.

The issue most definitely is that they did not inform us that GOG was getting another half feature patch ahead of time. It really lowers the trust I have with HG back to prelaunch levels (come on, it was pretty darn visible they were fudging on what features would be in the game by how he constantly danced around questions whlie letting people's imaginations run wild). And they did it all over again. Fudged what features would be on GOG by implying this version would get the same features (even though it didn't in the past). I frankly have no faith whatsoever in HG (I'm not really blaming GOG here because it isn't their place to market games for developers).
It's kind of impressive how Hello Games was incapable of not screwing this up (for part of their player base).
