AutisticTitan: Hi, I'm a very new No Man's Sky player and I just wanted to add another voice to the 'offline players deserve quicksilver and void eggs' discussion here.

I'm dual booting Linux Mint and Windows 7. Due to my own paranoia (even though I have the windows drive image backed-up) I'm keeping the windows drive offline, so my NMS save game will never connect to the servers. Seeing as how the game is advertised as single-player, not getting quicksilver missions, the cosmetic goodies, and (especially) living ships is a real disappointment.

I'm otherwise liking the game so I hope this is something HG will fix soon themselves, because offline players shouldn't have to do save editing to play the same game as online players.
This might help you:

Sorry for the delay, I am somewhat busy these days...

I was fiddling around with some things in the save editor, just to find out now that it's exactly what is shown in the video
@AlpakaDream has linked to ;-)

So I save my breath... eh typing, and suggest you follow the instructions from the video.

I have a suggesttion:

How about keeping track of the mentioned variables here in the thread?
So everybody can adjust them in the save editor.

Meaning : ShopNumber and ShopTier.
It did indeed, thanks a bunch!

I still want HG to correct this situation themselves of course, but until then I second norsk's suggestion. If the online players would let us offline players know when we need to update our save-edit/bugfix and to what value, that'd be much appreciated.

I'm happy for people to do that in this topic, its sort of on topic anyway, and if Hellogames have had a look in here after my zendesk report at least they will see that offline players are having to resort to using an unofficial method to make things work.

Did you try what I propose to try eventually in this post ?

..and work towards seeing if those Space Encounter void eggs would actually give a Void egg instead of living ship upgrades if you dont have a living ship and dont have a Void egg in your inventory. That to me sounds like a possibility. It may just be something offline players have not ventured enough to see if there is another way to get a Void Egg without them being available in the Quicksilver store.
I'm guessing your saves are beyond having used the save editor now so its probably too late to ask.

I believe you're right that it's too late to try, at least with my current save. I already finished the Living-Ship missons and have a nice odd ship in the hangar of my freigther.
I may have an older save somewhere in the backups, if I find some time I could give it a try.

I played a little with my current save, changing the values of the ShopNumber- and ShopTier- variables.
It seems that the values do not have to match the current official "progress", meaning any number is fine as long as it's at least as big as the current official "progress".

For example, I tried 99 for the ShopNumber and set ShopTier to 4.
That gave the Quicksilver-Shop many items I have never seen before, including some things that are obviously not yet officially implemented in the game. Like coloured trails for the space ship and funny little bobblehead-figurines of Nada, Polo and some others which you may (later) attach to your ship's dashboard. ;-)
Origins Update :

Still no Void Egg in the QS Store for GOG Offline players .. See screenshots

I wonder if those new "Infected" planets which seem to be kind of living ship design flora have any.
Will have a look but I doubt it, Void Eggs being allowed for GOG Offline players was not included in the Origins Update patch notes https://www.nomanssky.com/origins-update/

You can still use my tutorial to get Living Eggs for the current (Origins) Update.

Crap, I think I have been given my answer.

They have changed the GOG No Man's Sky page to have a disclaimer ..

https://www.gog.com/game/no_mans_sky

The game features online components introduced in updates (SYNTHESIS, BYTEBEAT, LIVING SHIP, EXO MECH, CROSSPLAY, DESOLATION and ORIGINS) that require Internet connection.
Its not what we bought into anymore. If you want content from living ships you are forced now to install the GOG Galaxy client to update the Quicksilver shop list ..
or, use a third party game save editor and enter random numbers to shop tiers in hopes that you are doing it right to get items .. and not adversely affecting the game in some other way nobody knows for sure.

End of story I guess. Bit of a crap move, but I trust Hellogames has a good technical reason for not just adding a Void Egg to the default list?

Good find! But this sucks, guess we're not going to see an official update to fixing this issue.

So far, I haven't seen others complaining about negative effects from the save editor, so it seems safe. Haven't tried it myself for fear of breaking my 100+ hour savefile

ChewyWeAreNotHome: It is an individual choice but everyone has the option to do this. I would suggest that if anyone elects to try this intermittent online gameplay that before the first launch of NMS in Galaxy to first edit the Galaxy settings to disable automatically updating the game and disable cloud saves.
Is this the step to 100% ensure no-one elses game changes to the generated universe end up in my own game? This is the number 1 reason i never connect online, i just don't want to ever find anything 'discovered/named/built' by another human player. I want it all 100% generated by the game.

------------------------

And in general this is a great thread. Please put up variable names and values we can adjust using a save game editor if needed, i certainly could consider moving to the latest versions of NMS (currently very happy in my modded Synthesis 2.27 version) if i can carry on never connecting online and have access to most of the game content.

Hopefully one day Hello Games will tweak the values we are talking about so single player never online gamers can experience the full game they bought and supported :)

I do not know when discoveries made by other players are updated into a local save or if those are loaded only if connected online when entering a system.

What happened to me during a prior long duration period of discovery servers being out was that I entered a system and started discovering planets and fauna only to later see that some of the discoveries had bene credited to someone else and these seemed to go back and forth a few times as discovery servers work based upon the date/time of their receipt, not date/time of a person either making the initial discovery or pressing the upload button(s).

Or, venture out into one of the far, far galaxies. Find a nice one in the 100's or so. The few Travelers who venture that far are probably intending to continue their journey and won't have lingered to build a base or discover many systems. Move into a deep galaxy and then go up out of the galactic plane, away from "hot spots" like the center or corners, and you can hop around systems for a long, long time with little chance of bumping into any trace of an earlier visitor.
@ ChewyWeAreNotHome and dashiichi,

It is more a case of as i bought NMS as a single player game (knowing the 'MP' aspects were not mature or (then) a major feature of the game), i still want to be able to keep playing it as such.

I think it is just safer to keep it permently offline only (the only way i have played it from launch), and use the save-game editor when i need to fix an issue that MP has created for the single player gamers (like with the void eggs).

For now i'm thinking about getting back into modding so i can make some of my essential mods work with the current version i am using (Synthesis). There are just a couple i need to be able to fully get back into the game (after like 2 years away from it iirc?!).

For anyone still following this topic : HUUUGE NEWS!

v3.15 was quite a bit more of an update than just "Stability fixes" for PC

I have moaned about this for ages, ever since the Living Ships update became a thing, put in requests to change it, made different playthroughs to find out without a shadow of doubt that we really could not access them without being online

HELLOGAMES HAVE STEALTHILY INCLUDED A VASTLY EXPANDED EXOTIC ITEMS LIST, BY DEFAULT, FOR FULLY OFFLINE PLAYERS!!!

I am gobsmacked. After all this time its come along without even a mention in the patch notes. Regardless, this has made my Covid year :D

I did a doubletake, Alt tabbed out of the game ..

GOG Galaxy not running - Check
Task manager no GOG Galaxy service running in the background - Check
I have started a brand new game and there is no doubt this has not come from an old save - Check
Back in game my name is "Explorer" instead of my GOG user name - Check
Discoveries screen reporting no online connection - Check

I go to the Quicksilver shop (for the first time in this fully offline playthrough) to look at what Exotic Items are up for grabs for completely offline players .. Its now got all items up to and including Stealth Starship Trails .. Which means finally fully offline players have access to Void Eggs without having to resort to any JSON editing, or temporarily running the game through GOG Galaxy just to get the shop tiers updated ..

Screenshot 3 - https://i.imgur.com/dbLgLEc.png

So chuffed Hellogames came through with this, if they are listening thank you very much :D

Edit : Yep, Bobbleheads too ;)

Edit 2 : Apparently this has been in game since the Next Gen update, one of the few times I had not done a new offline playthrough to check <slapshead>
