Hi there.

Assuming, that NEXT now stabilized sufficiently to again pick up my habbit of galaxy-hopping, I picked a raging galaxy when given the choice, which as in pre-NEXT ended me up in Calypso.

After finding and getting my ship off the ground, I went for a Monolith, had a Portal located and fed with sixten times the first glyph to get close to the galactic core, and then activated it. Once through, dropped a Base Computer and a Terminus, went back trough the Portal, up to a Space Station, then using the Space Stations terminus to get to my new base.

I'm now about 5K LY away from the Calypso core. Fun thing: Upon lifting off of the Airless planet I portaled to, I saw about half a dozen Com Stations. As expected, they're lodged into the planets core below the terraformable layer -- which clearly shows, that some kind of multiplayer state is still kept from earlier versions.

Portaling now has your ship brought in right next to you. But calling your freighter yields a 'Portal Interference detected' message. That's why I took the odd route of claiming a base and building a terminus. Once I reach the next Galaxy, I'll try to simply reach the Space Station after portaling, and then check, if I can use the Terminus for going back and forth.

Edit:

Additionally, I just noticed that planet showing as having been discovered by another Traveller.

I just moved on from Calypso to Hesperius in 1.57. Since I didn't find any prior hints on chanhing Galaxies in this forum, here are some that worked ouit for me:

' Reaching core:
- The first Glyph when dialed in a Portal will bring you within reasonable jump range of the core
- Due to Freighters having lost their ability to do long range jumps, bring an Exotic or an Explorer, and beef it up with some S Class Hyperdrive Modules to reduce the number of jumps required to actually reach the system closest to the core
- Once you reached the system closest to the core, with help of 'q' and 'e' in the Galaxy Map select the path to the core, and then use the cursor keys (up/down/left/right) to follow that path until the centre is selected. Initiate jump as usually with the left mouse button
- You can not transition from one Galaxy to another in your freighter. The game will let you do the jump, but you'll end up on a planet with your currently selected ship, nonetheless.
- The ship you select for the transition must have a fully fueled Hyperdrive, otherwise the game won't let you do that kind of massive jump

* Hints
- Bring mats for an Exocraft Bay. Seriously.
- Most of your tech will be broken. Don't worry. Unless you didn't bring mats for an Exocraft Bay.
- Build an Exocraft Bay once you pop into the new Galaxy, serving as a temporary safe space
- Bring the usual Traveler gear: Environment shields and the mats to recharge them, including Oxygen for your live support
- Find and repair the ship you used, make it into Space, call your Freighter, and you're good to go :)

It looks like that with the latest patch 1.58B this no longer works. I went through the portal, but couldn't drop a Base Computer on the other side.It was missing from the menu, which means that the developers have learned about this "exploit" and removed it.

Thanks -- so, in 1.58B, does the Space Stations Terminus of the system you portaled into show up in your list (provided you visited the Space Station), after going back trough the portal ?

No, it didn't appear. It only shows up in the Discoveries list, bit I couldn't use Terminus to warp to afterwards.

I've just tried in it 1.57 without building a Base Computer at the target location of the Portal.

Flying up to the Space Station after exiting the Portal, I found the Terminus to be disabled due to 'Portal Interference'. But after going back through the portal, the new Space Station did show up in the Teleporter :)

So, if 1.58 doesn't change that, my new routine will be:

1. Locate Portal
2. Drop base computer right next to Portal (since I don't build bases, and I do need one in order to use the Teleporters)
2. Power up, dial sequence and enter Portal
3. At target, visit Space Station. No need to try and activate its Terminus.
4. Go back trough Portal
5. Use Teleport to get to new Space Station

Using this method, all I 'loose' is a few Chromatic Metal for the Base Computer.

And here's a warning:

If you use a Portal, the target system might be an uncharted one, containing no Space Station -- subsequently you'll not be able to Teleport from your source to your target system.

Well. That's just what has happened to me. So, I jumped out of that system to the nearest system not being marked uncharted, entered the Space Station, then went back out to jump back to the system the target Portal is located in ... only to find, that jumping there requires an Emeril drive.

So, I'm now enjoying the thrill (seriously) of building up one, while being unable to call my Freighter in (which has a Cargo bay full of Cadmium), not being able to refine more Cadmium than I currently have on me, and kind of being stuck where I am.

Good thing I have this Explorer. Hell of a ship for situations like these.

Finally found some reachable ComStations at considerable height above the planetary surface, carrying rather dramatic messages :)

Planet is Airless, and the one to reach in Kikolgallr (sp. ?) Galaxy, if Portaling with the first Glyph.

Good, enjoy it while you can. As I said that doesn't work. Dropping Base Computer where I located the portal doesn't do enything. The system still doesn't appear on the Terminus list of the system the portal was discovered. Here were my steps:
1. Located the portal on the planet I've already installed a Base Computer.
2. Powered the portal up and went through it.
3. Located a space station in the new system and docked with it. Note: The Galaxy map was disabled at this point so you couldn't warp anywhere out of the new system.
4. Checked the Terminus and saw that the warping was disabled.
5. Went back through the portal to my system of origin, flew to the space station and checked the Terminus. The new system wasn't listed.

I hope this explains better.

As you said, and what i did reference to in another thread, 1.58 doesn't seem to allow to drop Base on the other side of a Portal. That's why I asked for getting the target Station into the Teleport list by visiting the Space Station.

Now, if Hello Games decided, as you (thank you for trying this one out and explaining it so clearly) experienced, to completely block permanent relocation through portals, that in my view is quite something.

My urge to rant about several aspects of NEXT aside, that would add to my impression of Hello Games struggling to add content beyond effort-wise 'cheap' re-use of existing game mechanics and assets, and if in doubt choosing to timebomb content, either by imposing extended real-time delays or by forcing players into loo ping through repetitive tasks by cutting out much valued options for briniging more volatility into the gameplay.

There you have it, I ranted -- instead of thanking you for coming back and clarifiying the current state of affairs in 1.58.

So, thank you for coming back, taking the time to check and then post this clarification :)
