SpongememeFagpants: Yes and no. You need to keep in mind that just as Ubuntu, SteamOS is based on Debian, and SteamOS itself isn't even fully developed yet. Plus, this game is very ambitious, and the main target would of course be the majority of gamers: Windows users, since that brings in most of the revenue that is needed to roll out updates, keep servers running and optimising the game for other operating systems.

I would love NMS to support Linux though. <- That and driver support are the only things currently keeping me away from Linux gaming.

flammenbringer: Linux not supported means they don't want my money. Fine by me, my backlog is killing me. ;)
The revenue from Windows gamers will probably not be invested into Linux. That's wishful thinking. Either a studio wants all the audience it can get, meaning mult-platform release, or it'll only feed into the over-saturated market. Their call.
Let's hope that Hello Games will be interested in making the game compatible with Linux. I'm only afraid that, even if they ARE interested, they may not be able to deliver the update anytime soon. (At least after the release)

Well, they decided to support only two platforms, Windows and PS4. They declined to comment on an XBox One release. Linux version ain't gonna happen.

FERdeBOER: Does someone know if there's going to be Linux support any time soon after the release?
Very unlikely.

But it seems to run very well with wine:

Hail Linux! :)
They couldn't get their sh*t together for a PC release, and still hardly can. A Linux release is very unlikely. Not at this rate at least.
works perfect in a 64 bit wineprefix but without online features
I managed to make GOG Galaxy work in 64 bit wine but still the game can't connect.
