Hi@all,

I'm about to prepare moving on in NMS to finish the "storyline" (Follow the path of the Atlas) and getting to the center of the Euclid Galaxy. For me that means I will break down my base, load everything I own into my starships and my freighter and move on then. So far so good.

But: My freighter is not the biggest and best (Class C with 26 slots) and I would like to replace it with another one. But how can I handle this? Regarding the content of the storage slots this won't be a problem. Rescue the new freighter, go to the captain, check the data of the new freighter, switch all content of the old freighter's storage slots to the new one, accept the offer - done.

But here it seems to become tricky in my opinion in two cases:

1) on my old freighter I have built a freighter base with ten storage containers which are full, too -> how to move these contents?

2) I own six starships which are placed on my old freighter and I'd like to keep them -> how can I handle this? can they be moved to the new freighter, too?

I'm asking because I don't want to sell or trash all my resources because it was a lot of work to get them. So before I'm doing this maybe someone has an idea how to switch everything...

Thanks and regards

You don't need to do anything. When you change freighters, your ships will be there. Rebuild the storage containers and their contents will still exist inside of them. If you want to recoup on the silver to rebuild in your new freighter, you can even remove all of the interior space except the hallway that leads from the bridge down to the hanger bay, then exchange your freighter. Unfortunately, that means leaving your freighter in it's disassembled state while you hunt for a new one. However, if you're just spending an entire play session looking for a replacement freighter, it's not that much of an inconvenience.

If your freighter has 34 slots, that's the maximum. Getting a new one would mean you can possibly grab one with more tech slots (Synthesis changed the amount of tech slots freighters can have to max out at 9 and also changed/added some of the tech you can install in those slots).

That aside, the only other reason to upgrade would be if you warp with your freighter. A higher class will have an increased hyperdrive range bonus.

*edit* On a side note, if you're running out of space to store stuff (what are you carrying, anyway?), you can now increase the storage of all your ships to 48 slots by using the starship upgrade terminal on space stations.

Thank you very much, great to hear that I don't have to do anything. So I simply will break down my base, put everything in the storage rooms/containers of the freighter and remove then all the parts of the freighter I have build by myself. I will send feedback if that worked, but this will take some time, I still have to get some units, A- or S-Class freighters are horribly expensive even if you rescue them...

Thank you for the hints, I wrote some bulls..t regarding my freighters storage, it has only 26 slots instead of 34, so an upgrade of the slots highly would be appreciated...

Main thing of course is what you wrote regarding the warp distance: Since I'd like to make some progress towards the galaxy center, a freighter with a bigger warp distance and/or more tech slots would be great (currently my ships all have more warp distance than my freighter (102 LY)...

You do not need to upgrade the Freighter hyperdrive for that. Just jump with your best hyperdrive range ship. After the arrival simply summon your freighrter and you have all of it in the new system.

Keep in mind that right now, at least, you can get a higher jump range with your starship with 6 S class hyperdrive upgrades than you can with a freighter with all upgrades installed.
When I did exchange my freighter, I used to first go in the captain's dialogue of the new freigther to see the stats, and then chose to simply leave. I then returned to my freighter, dismantled all the rooms and stuff, then went back to the new freighter and this time: I accept to buy it. The new freighter will stay there as long as you don't reload the game and don't change system.
This was fine before Synthesis and should still work.
