If you used the FriEveBuild2707 patch on v1.52, you can't use the v1.53 patch. When I tried, I got an error stating "This patch does not support your version of the game please download a new installer".

This is for the manually installed patches, I don't use Galaxy.

If you look at the patch numbers, the 1.52 to 1.53 patch numbers are 22523 to 22650. You should be able to patch successfully, if you only used the 1.52 (22523) experimental update. Not sure why they didn't have a patch from FriEveBuild to 1.53. Maybe it's an honest mistake, since that one is 22532.

This is not the first time I couldn't update a game on gog because they didn't upload the right patch. Does anyone know if there is a way around this, I'm really tired of having to redownload my entire game again.

You can reinstall v1.52 then install the v1.53 and v1.54 patches over that, making sure to skip the FriEveBuild2707 patch.
I downloaded the entire game in frievebuild, because that was what gog had uploaded. They didn't even have 1.52 they just had 1.52.1. So I don't have the 1.52 update. I emailed gog about it, so maybe they'll upload a patch but I don't know.
Again, not the first time I've seen this, they really need to get better about what version they're uploading and provide the correct patches.
Yeah it sucks and there is no workaround. You would expect a patch from FriEveBuild2707 to 1.53 but there is not. If you installed the FriEveBuild2707 patch you're screwed.

Decided it was not worth the trouble and download the 1.53 full game offline installers. Uninstalled the game, choose to keep the saves (make a backup to be sure!) and installed 1.53, then update to 1.54. Works flawlessly although it takes way too much time and bandwidth.

Not to mention after several patches, the old patches are blasted into oblivion, never to be seen again. So if patches are rapidly released, for example 1.50 to 1.51b, then all patches currently online are useless. I had to trawl through the internet to find the 1.5 to 1.51b... will be checking regularly and backing them all up, that's for sure.

If anyone needs it, PM me.

GOG Support will often provide incremental patches if you missed them. They don't leave links for them from your library (which drives most of us crazy), but they do still have them backed up somewhere, so contacting Support may yield results as well.
