I don't know much about graphics cards. I've got a GTX 590 which does have a higher number than the GTX 480 they claim as a minimum but I did an online search and found a few sites that said the 480 has a better graphics performance than the 590. Does anyone know if a GT590 would be powerful enough to run this game?

yes it should run No man's sky because the gtx 500 series supports opengl 4.5

be aware, i can't tell which specs u will achieve. maybe on low-mid. NMS seems to be unoptimized for PCs, judging by streams on twitch.

Thank you for that, I think I'll give it a try.
The GTX 590 is an NVIDIA card that is four or five generations old, and came in late 2010

The 480 that you are referring to is probably the AMD RX 480 which just came out in 2016 and is actually fairly powerful for it's price.

Don't pay attention to the numbering as graphics vendors often do things out of order, etc. and start re-numbering cards on a whim. I would simply get the full brand, letters and numbers denoting a card model, and look it up specifically to get the specifications.

In this case, it just so happens that AMD's current card numbering scheme started catching up with the numbers for older Nvidia cards.

Theoretically it would be faster, but the GT590 is a dual gpu card (dual gtx560 I believe).
As a single gtx560 is a bit slower than a gtx480, it could be slower indeed.

Especially considering all the problems this game has, it wouldn't suprise me SLI isn't working (yet). So currenty a 590 is probably slower than a 480

@todda: an AMD RX480 would be much faster than either card indeed.

No, the minimum requirements do say Nvidia GTX 480 and the pages I was looking at were comparing different Nvidia cards. The minimum AMD is a Radeon 7870.

The game works fairly well on my GTX 590, on the ground at least, I haven't managed to fix the ship and take off yet.
Well, good thing I didn't pre-order or buy the game. I'm still on an ATi 4870 which is stuck on openGL 3.3....

Man, and I so wanted to play it. It's Arkham Knight all over again! >_<

I've been holding off buying a new PC as I'm still waiting for Star Citizen's specs to be finalized but NMS might actually make me bite the proverbial bullet.
