I have loved this game from the start and have hundreds of hours in game. Every new release I would start a new game and love it all over again.

That is until Outlaws game out.

I'm 58 years old and have been into computers since the early eighties and spent my career as an IT specialist. I retired a few years ago and spent ridiculous amounts of time playing NMS. It 'was; wonderful.

Then HG decided to concentrate on 2 major devs - multiplayer and VR, neither of which I am remotely interested, but understand that others wanted it. As it didn't affect my single player experience, all was well.

Then Outlaws dropped, and the hell began.

This goes against everything I like(d) about this game. Exploring new worlds and galaxies, finding the perfect planet, creating awesome bases - this is what I enjoy the most. It's relaxing, and the odd fights are fine.

But being constantly hassled by pirates and sentinels just makes the game unplayable for me.

Yes I know many wanted this, and that's fine, but my disappointment remains. If HG and included a switch to disable the new pirate behavior, I would happily continue to play.

As it is, this camel has burdened one straw too many.

Thanks HG.
All the best to everyone else.

I've got older version and patches saved so if I get tired of the "new normal", I could load up a version of NMS that predates Outlaws (or whatever newer stuff comes down the pike).

You could do that too - just play a version that doesn't include Outlaws.

But you didn't, for some reason. Your choice, obviously - but it isn't like you don't have some control over that situation.

Also, if you take time to find a "Conflict level = 1" system, you may not even be bothered by Pirates. I notice that I've not been attacked at all on the ground in such a system (although I do still get attacked while flying in the atmosphere; and the pirates do still attack building-installation on the ground - but for that I just sit in my ship until they go away - they've only barely scratched my ship during those bouts (which then "auto-heals" a minute or so after they leave)).

If you stay away from "Aggressive Sentinel" planets, the Sentinels pretty much are like they've always been, in my experience. Except now you can find those Sentinel Pillars and turn them off completely for awhile.

If you like exploring planets, you would be bound to find one or more of those Sentinel Pillars by random chance. The Sentinels stationed there aren't any more aggressive than anywhere else; so you can usually drop a base computer near one; and thus easily return to it later and multiple times to shut them down.

BTW, I am over 60, and also a retired IT Specialist; and have been playing computer games since Pong; and, on my 1981-vintage Atari 800, Star Raiders (back in the day).

Anyways, good luck to you, and have fun playing whatever.. :)
I totally agree. I went back to 3.75 and haven't looked back. Errr... Forward. Whatever. 3.75 got it right.

Why not put in the version you like?

Don't know if this works, but there is a "No Pirates And No Random Sentinels" mod on Nexusmods.

It certainly takes the chill vibe out of the game. It would be nice if they would add a game mode for more laid-back exploration.
They completely botched Stellaris after 1.9 IMO, so I have a copy of 1.9 and mods for that version and thats what I use. It sucks you dont get some of the new features you may like and mods for the new version, but its that much of a difference for me so thats what I do. As someone else said there are usually config files you can edit to control all of that to your liking, and there are almost certainly already mods to address it or will be at some point.

Play an older version you liked, check the config files, or check for a mod to address the issue

Not Compatible yet with NMS "ENDURANCE" v.3.96.

I bought/pre-ordered NMS specifically because it was advertised as a PURE exploration game. These fights really piss me off too.
