Since 2.13 I have been attempting to upgrade my freighter ( currently an A class 32 slot ) to an S class with no real luck. The largest S class I have been able to find is a 19 slot. I have been following the utube clip that Jasonplays posted on getting an S class ie have the game running for 3 hours do the 4 jumps save then do the 5th jump into a Wealthy system and help defend the freighter. After reloading and defending the freighter 14 times in a row I gave up...In that sequence the highest freighter I was able to be offered was a B class 35 slot.

I am not running any mods and am at my wits end trying to get a good S class. Any tips ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Beyond seems be splattered with Venator and Sentinel freighter models, but getting an S-Class spawn is still a chore, and can easily take dozens of tries. I'd need to look it up, but I think it took me like 40 to get mine. And it's a slot short, and the tech slot layout has a gap :/

I simply beefed up my Star Ship so that I was able to allmost one shot the pirates in order to speed up the process.

To my knowledge there are no shortcuts or further in-game tricks for raising the probability of an S-Class spawn other than picking a wealthy or at least moderate Star System.
There's something wrong with your install if you're seeing a 35 slot freighter. The highest slot count is 34+4.

S classes always have max slots, so if you're seeing 19 slot freighters, those are the regular system freighters and not the big capital ships.

If you've made a save and know the freighter battle is due to occur, then load up that save and try another wealthy system. See what spawns. If it's a freighter type and size you like, then don't engage the battle. Instead fly straight to the space station, exit ship to create the autosave, then fly out and do the battle. Check the class of the freighter. If it's not S class, then reload the autosave from the space station and try again. The freighter class isn't set until you start the battle, so you can just reload that space station save and try again and again. That will at least save the time spent waiting for the warp animation to complete. Unfortunately, there's no quicker method.

Wealthy systems give you a 2% chance for the freighter to be an S class. In mid wealth systems, it's a 1% chance. In poor systems, there's no chance.

Good luck, Interloper!

On a side note, if you're not warping with your freighter, there's really no need for an S class (other than the cachet of having 'the best').

*edit* I've seen people post on the NMS reddit sub that they've tried for days to get an S class. So it's just a matter of time and patience.

I finally managed to get my S 34+4 :) I had to fully research all freighter upgrades and the next warp jump I made I defended a freighter and it was the S class.
Forgot to mention I'm playing survival mode not sure if that makes a difference or not but thank you for your comments.
