So I've updated to 1.1 through GOG, but now it crashes out everytime I try and start a game. I get to the option of which mode to start, but picking any of them instantly closes the game. I have tried a fresh install, deleted anything mod related, updated my graphics drivers, tried starting in windowed mode but nothing seems to be working. Running on an i5 with Radeon R290. Any suggestions?
Same problem here...frustrating
Just updated and game didn't work again :( I've tried reinstalling game and drivers but still doesn't launch
Same here. Updated, deleted entire original NMS folder, no luck. No game mode works, even deleted old game saves. Still nothing. What a god damn farce this game is.
Try Installation / Repair

Thorac: Try Installation / Repair
I've tried that, tried fresh instal twice, changed graphics settings, updated graphics drivers etc. Sent the crash log to Hello Games, just hoping someone else has found a work around
I just tried mine, my installation works fine.

My game is completely unmodded so is it possible that a mod might be the problem?

Otherwise I hope they do a hotfix for the issues soon!
Edit:

This fix works for me:

I think something is still broken for clean installations
I also had a clean installation, but the old *.pak files was still there, after I delete the old files the games runs fine so far.

Everyone that NMS directory is over 5GB big should look for it.

I hate "Me, too" posts but ... Me, too!

FWIW, all of the .pak files in GOG Games\No Man's Sky\GAMEDATA\PCBANKS have current, post-update time stamps.

Starting the game and choosing the default saved game, from yesterday, pretty much instantly exits back to the desktop.

!$!%@^

No special rig, Win 7 (64), Nvidia 760. Ran fine (mostly) up through yesterday.

Did have the joystick-as-X360-controller files in GOG Games\No Man's Sky\Binaries. Removed them entirely, same immediate exit back to desktop.

Ran the verify/repair tool. It reported no changes made.

So now I guess I'm [redacted] up the [redacted]. :-(

Update: Now it doesn't even launch. Immidiately after clicking the "Play" button on the GOG Galaxy app, Windows pops up an Application Crash notification with the usual request to send crash information to Microsoft. As if that would do jack. Usual Windows troubleshooting technique: shutdown & reboot. No change, still an immediate crash.

I tried all of the above, as well as installing the latest NVidia drivers, reducing graphics settings, to no avail.

Until I deleted TKGAMESETTINGS.MXML (I renamed it to .backup just in case) in Binaries/SETTINGS in the install dir. Hurray! Everything works! :)

Seems to be something to do with remapped controls. Maybe a syntax change or something?

In any case, I'm up and running again - hope it also works for some people here.

Cheers!

Cheers indeed! Thanks SecondMan, that did the trick. So far. The controls are back to default but at least it's running now (from the game icon; haven't tried from within GOGG yet).

Next, get the joystick working again. What the hell, all I can do is crash it again. ;-)

OT: AWD as the "home row" seems so awkward as compared to ASD w/X as backward. ::sigh::
Worked fine out of the gate for me, even using NMSLauncher to load my specific profile didn't seem to cause a hitch. The only thing I noticed was that it reset my keybindings to default, and the first load took a long time to leave the starfield screen (like it did on the first load after the last major update). Loaded on a Windows 8 machine.
Hello,

Did all your solutions, and the game does not launch yet... :/

I just don't know what to do...

I even uninstalled/reinstalled completely the game... Meh
