I tend to enjoy games others dont, or complain about, so I bought the game because it was on sale, despite the fact people generalty refer to it as trash.

The first experience is pretty awful. Very forced and full of itself with a lot of pointless running around. Might as well call it a Running Simulator.

The planet looks cool at first, until you realize its an endless sea of exacyle the same thing.

The controls are again, very unintuative and full of themselves. You must remeber multiple key combinations, and various menus to navigate through to do anything, none of which are very intuative. Even something as simple as selecting an menu option is unintuative as simply clicking it does nothing, you have to click and hold for a second or two. Which might not be to bad, except you cant remap your keys because aparently that has been broken, and still not fixed.

smh, what a waste. I really didnt think it was possible to be as trash as people say this game was, but its true.
You can turn off the click and hold in options, so no problem.

Yes, the game isn't perfect and Beyond update broke the key rebinding but many forget that this is more of a simulator and exploration game than Call of Duty shooter.

I myslef have quite a few issues with the current state of the game but I mainly complain about the VR aspect of it as this is what I was really waiting for and am a bit disapointed about it.

But is it waste of money? Full price... well, maybe. Just a bit.
But on sale for $20 or $25 or whatever it is now I think it's acceptable and you can sqeeze a few hours out if it even in Creative Mode when you are not restricted by some of the game mechanics

Unaware you could turn the click to hold off, I will have to do that, drives me NUTS. Very poor decision to have that on by default i think. For some actions / buttons I could see having it, as like a need to confirm what you are trying to do, but for everythign is jsut awful.

The broken keymappings is making it pretty unplayable to me. I have a logitech mouse, and the stupid setPoint software which is garbage wont run (known logitech issue) so the middle mouse button doesnt work, and since key bindings cant be changed cause its broken, so that really screws you up on alot of stuff if you cant use your middle mouse button, and you cant remap it... this is a large part of my "Dont waste your money stance". Broken keybinding is a very very amatuerish mistake, and something that shouldnt be overlooked, or left broken this long.

I have however managed to dig out an old mouse where middle mouse click does work, which means I can now actually get the heck off the first planet. I will say that my experience so far has improved a little. I can see some potential, but obviously not far enough in to see if its realized.

So far the two planets I have been to look like im on a slightly more colorful tatooine... so basicaly barren bleaky emptyness with sparse bits of flora and fauna. Not very interesting, but a friend has assured me not all planets are like this.

I think I will continue to update my experience as I go here. I really WANT to like this game, its just making it very difficult.

Heads up then. If you are in normal mode. Don't worry about the base and build it as minimum as possible to finish this part of tutorial.
Try to get to the point where you finally can get your jump drive (I think that's what it's called in english version) this will let you leave the solar system you started in.
The game opens up after that.

PS:
The click and hold was in the game from the start (I think we've got consoles to thank for this) and it only changed with Beyond update - so.. a week ago...
I hated it very much, but after about 40hours I just learned to ignore it.

Theres your problem.. Setpoint is anchient if your mouse is truely that old you might need to bury it... Logitech Hub is the current software however it doesnt support some of the old hardware (G13 grumble grumble).. however Logitech Gaming Software pretty much supports everything Logitech and is the one you should be using ...

Grab the right software and you can rebind it all fine thats what ive done to get past the inability to rebind in game

Hey,
While I guess the mouse is techinically "ancient" in terms of when the model was released (m310), they are still in production currently, so its not like its some mouse i have from 5 years ago. The new logitech software does not work with the 310, or a LOT of other logitech mice. SetPoint is the only option for software for it, and yes its a giant steaming pile of garbage since it was released.

The fact still remains though that having integral functionality mapped to the middle mouse button and having broken keymappings is nothing short of... idk insert the worst adjectives you can think of to describe development, testing, and release practices. Which is only worsened by the fact that while common a middle click is not some sort of defacto standard in all cases either. It does not matter that it happened in this most recent patch either because this is when I bought it. So its really great it worked before, and i understand its only been a week now since the updates release, but either way, as a new customer that is a game breaking issue that equates to someone leaving a "Dont waste your money" post.

Luckily, i really did want to like the game, so I did wrangle up an another mouse I had laying around (this one is ancient) and its middle click "just works" cause its some generic off brand that doesnt need special logitech phone home spyware garbage installed.

Since then, I binged out playing last night (sleep, who neeeds sleep), and the game definatley does get better and more enjoyable. I have some thigns i REALLY love about it, and some thigns i REALLY dont like, but overall the positive outweighs any negatives.

Most of my dislikes so far can be wrapped up into one thing though.
Lack of diversity. Planets appear to always be a single biome. Pretty much all plant and animal life on all planets I have seen looks the same after the first couple planets. Same couple outposts, but with just different colors.

The other one is, it feels like a dead universe. The creatures are completely devoid of any life or personality. The few npcs that there exist here and there are just as dull and lifeless as the creatures.

Despite being at about 14 hours of play now, im still not THAT far into the game, or even left the starting area (though i am warp capable) so im not letting any of the negatives bother me to much yet. Hoping things get a little more interesting once i get farther.

Unfortunately the lack of diversity plagues this game since day one. Mods help a lot with this issue. There's a sticky on the front page of this forum about where and what, so have a read.

I have to say. I've got my complaints about this game but for me VR brought the breath of fresh air into NMS.
I build and test in creative mode on my monitor but when I do play the game I only do it in VR, and despite all the dislikes I still love it.
As for Mouse issues: I couldn't play with un-bindable controls so I used "Mouse Control".

It's a program that allows you to intercept anything coming from your mouse, and do something else instead (mapping key presses or other things). I got Logitech Gaming Software, but it limits what you can rebind. So, thanks Logitech.

Mouse Control looks lika a lot when you first open it, but it's literally only the "Profile" list on the left - it tracks which application is active to map your mouse accordingly - and to the right, the dropdowns for what you want to remap. That's all you need.

Now, rebinding has been patched as of yesterday, and I stopped using the program again. There is still some weird reverting back to default controls when you build or at least in create-mode with the Terrain tool, but that's not bad enough for me to care much.

But none the less, this program has saved me tons of hassle with other games before, whenever it won't allow you to rebind or use the mouse wheel, or left / right clicks. Very helpful program indeed. And, make-and-model agnostic, works with any mouse.
The keybind thing was already fixed also..you should be able to rebind keys now..
So we can buy this game now?

Cos I`m sure everyone wasn`t buying until this was resolved!
