Not yet on GoG but should not take that long, usually comes after Steam and consoles. The update is about 5.5 GB in size !

I just updated via GOG Galaxy

Quit GOG Galaxy

Tried to run it from the NMS.exe as usual ..

When you try to load a game, or new game start, it CTDs

Runs okay if you let GOG Galaxy run the game .. But that does not bode well for Manual Installations of the game without GOG Galaxy at all.

I only used GOG Galaxy to save waiting for the Manual Installers, but I quit it because I want to see if they have given us completely offline players the Void Egg in the Anomaly Quicksilver store .. Alas I found a more serious issue than I expected.

I have sent a report in to the Zendesk reporting.
Woohoo! Now I can change the awful color of a capital ship. Don't get me wrong, the Captain is 4.0 and the chief cook is a magician with Impulse Bean & Strider Sausage stew. But there's a reason that I had to name it "Boy Is It Yellow!" and another color would indeed be nice. ;-)

ETA screenshot. Yellow by itself might be olay but it's the lime green accents that really make it special.

There seems to be a bug whereby having one (1) cargo bulkhead allows you to use it ad infinitum to fully upgrade your freighter inventory and tech slots without ever consuming it. Profit before its fixed!

No, You still have to edit that save in the other thread telling you how to get the Offline Void Egg/Quicksilver store going. What I would like to know is does this new content also have to be Save Edited to work offline, or are we Manual Installers good to go.

? I dont understand how you can reply no to that part of my post.
None of us GOG Offline players can say one way or the other at the moment whether the Void egg situation is still the same as it was in the other thread, because :
a) We have not got the Manual Installers yet
b) Running the game without GOG Galaxy running crashes (or at least it does in my case).
Did you manage to get the v2.60 game running without GOG Galaxy running (and its background service stopped) ???

If I could get the game to actually run without GOG Galaxy I might find out.

My post was mostly about the concern that when we get the the offline manual installers, the game may not run, just like in my current case trying to run the game from the NMS.exe without GOG Galaxy running just crashes, even when trying to start a new game and all previous settings have been deleted to setup afresh.

The void egg situation for offline players is what I am going to be testing for again .. when I can get the v2.60 game running without GOG Galaxy.

Right now all I can do is wait for patches to this version 2.60 in hopes that Hellogames quickly respond to my crash report I submitted on Zendesk

I don't have gog galaxy installed in the first place. From all the previous updates and patches, It has always been No and needed save edit for the extra stuff. So I assumed it would not have changed. Hopefully did they decided offline players were worth the effort this time. As soon as an Offline version is available I will do a Complete Clean install, and test also, after days of downloading each piece.

I thought that would be the case, someone else in another topic has only just bought the game and is faced with this problem .. Bad timing for a major bug for Offline players.

Steam Depots "Internal" files were just updated in the last hour, fingers crossed it includes fixes for our reports.

https://steamdb.info/app/275850/depots/

I am on the 3xperimental branch in GOG Galaxy for updating the files, so will try again when it goes live running the beta without GOG Galaxy running.

Going by the usual GOG Offline files being last to be received by the public .. Sometime next week probably before the public release fixes this.

Steam experimental has gone live, GOG Galaxy is not downloading it yet, but among the fixes there is this line ..

"Fixed a rare issue that could cause a hang during loading."

https://steamcommunity.com/app/275850/discussions/0/2793871682811150884/

Edit : Downloading now ..

:) Fixed in the experimental branch.

I let GOG Galaxy download the beta

Closed GOG Galaxy (Completely, not left running in the system tray)

Waited for the GalaxyCommunicationService to quit itself from the list in Task Manager

Ran the game from the NMS.exe in Binaries = Game loads fine new game or continued game, no error tokens.

So the next public release of GOG Offline Manual Installers (greater than v2.60) should also be fine.

Back to testing :)

One way to check that you get all online and MP capability is: When you start you are presented with the 3 game option's window which is: Start Game, Start Multiplayer, Exit To Desktop (in the lower right is written the version number).

If you don't get this window, then you may still have online connectivity for your discoveries etc. but you may have limited access to Nexus missions or other MP features.
What I do is downloading and installing the offline backup installers (from the website in my account), then I launch GoG Galaxy, then I launch game. I get the window above and all is alright, I get the Community Missions, I get the option to buy the Void Egg at the vendor in the Anomaly, I think that's how you start the Living Ship thing if I'm not wrong.

I hope this insight helps you,

Thank you but I know all this already.

The point is, for those of us who bought a Single Player game, Pre-ordered back in 2016, when the GOG Website advertised the game as a Single player game which did not need GOG Galaxy installed to play it .. That is what we invested in. And we expect to be able to play content which does not require online connectivity, just like everyone else can.

Well done to Hellogames for all the Multiplayer / VR additions since for those who want it.

But the content of a major update (Living ships) is effectively cut off to us Offline players, purely because we do not wish to use GOG Galaxy.

However the Living ships story is perfectly playable without being online or using the Galaxy client .. Except for one minor oversight, Hellogames does not include a Void Egg in the Exotic Items shop for us to be able to participate.

Note I have during one play through allowed GOG Galaxy to enable all the extra items in the shop, just to get the void egg in my save game, and thereafter played the entire storyline through without GOG Galaxy running. So the Living ships storyline does not require us to have online connectivity, it is only currently required to make the Void egg appear in the shop.

It would be so easy for them to correct and enable offline players to participate in the living ships storyline, just by enabling the Void egg as a default item, but so far they have not.

So we are forced to use GOG Galaxy if we want to play all storyline content in the game, which we should not have to do.
(Similarly, we should not have to use a third party save editor tool to enable it either).

That is why I keep testing each new update to see if they have finally included a Void egg in the shop for us Offline players.

I presume we can discuss anything related to the "Desolation Update" in this topic.
