Every time I find a crashed ship via a transmission beacon the distance keeps changing.

Example: Last night I located a crashed ship on the current planet I was on . My hud indicated that on foot it would take fifteen minutes to travel to. I get in my ship and start flying towards the crash and suddenly it is 30 minutes away. As I fly towards the crash it keeps moving further and further away. I end up giving up after 30 minutes of real time chasing this crashed ship.

This happens every time. It doesn't matter if I fly back into orbit to get a better angle or stay in the atmosphere. The dang things always keep moving further and further away. Only one time did I finally reach the ship and that was after nearly an hour.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
This only happens sometimes, not every time, but I`ve had it too.

Try going to a space station then take off and head for the planet again, but before you get there, stop and while in space circle untl you`re almost over position of the crashed vehicle on the planet, then dive in. It can`t outrun you then.

Pretty same issue. The only difference in my case it is that it does not happen everytime, but sometimes.
I assumed it had to do with the way the world was generating on the fly...

The best bet is to go into orbit and over shoot it then bear down from space directly on it.
This happens with other areas on a planet too. It's really annoying.
Get into the upper atmosphere, boost, and you'll be there in no time.

Just think outside the box.

It confused me as well for a while.

Here's what it is: It's on the other side of the planet. The game has tremendous trouble calculating distance when it's too far around the curve of the planet. The crashed ship isn't actually moving though, but forget about flying to it in atmosphere. The planets are too damn big. Instead, boost out of the atmosphere and fly around the planet in space using the pulse drive.

It is actually described in this ACG Walking the walk video...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgjyH0g0AkM

as being the marker is a 2D representation in a 3D world and that it draws an invisible line between you and the ship straight through the planet instead of via it's circumference so the distance changes all the time as you head around the planet (instead of through it)
Find a transmition tower (via the red beacons, pick colonial until it gives trans tower) ,go to it, and answer the maths question to get a ship location, don't leave but answer maths question again and again. Now you have many crashed ships, so you should find one :)

After I have answered the math-question, I drop out of the dialog once it has marked the crash site, and can not activate the "interface control" again.
I have then "used" this tower, and need to find a new one.

Thanks for the responses everyone.

This explanation makes sense . Now that I know what it happening I should be able to reach these ships .
..It's probably calculated by the actual speed you're traveling towards the object, instead of through a route. So the time to arrive will increase a little bit when the average speed towards the waypoint becomes more accurate. ..I think..

You mean, like go into space? But the waypoint is down on the planet, that makes no sense!

Just think outside the box.
Giordano Bruno would be happy with that one. No center, no invisible morings tying the planets to our earth, it's all infinite, stretching out in a celestial dance, all planets around a star, all the stars around each other.

Unless you run into Sony Q&A and they remove planet movement completely. Really, maybe Bruno deserves to be burned after all.

It's because the ship is on the other side of the planet from you and the game is calculating a straight line distance *THROUGH* the planet.

Just keep heading toward it in one direction around the planet and you'll get there. Better yet, jump into space and go around the planet faster.
