Companions Update (version 3.2) is out. This is another large update (5.6 GB) which started pretty quickly but then slowed down.

EDIT: Adds pets which apparently travel, can do some tasks, lay eggs to grow others and you can modify the "NDA." Build number to be added should the download ever finish and is 68746.

"Concrete base parts now require Silicate Powder rather than Carbon to build."

Eh? Concrete base parts used to require mostly ferrite dust, not carbon.

It's enough of a PITA to collect enough silicate powder for windows. If I need it for concrete, too... Bleghhhh.

ETA: "The construction cost of Creature Pellets has been increased"

The creature pellets used to be really cheap using the nutrient processor. Should I fill up a freighter with creature pellets before applying the update?

Only played a little bit but saw that all existing bait has been converted to creature pellets and that these now cost 60 carbon to create (used to be 20 I think but rarely do those). Tossing one did convert a butt-head to friendly with something to harvest plus several other options.

I keep having to split and dump silicate powder anyway but haven't been to my only base in months and do not have a desire to create bases anyway. I often do not bother trying to find my way back to how I got into a cave and just drill my way out.

Overall I don't consider this to be an interesting update but am sure that this took a considerable amount of programming to implement.

It's only 1:1 carbon to creature pellet in the nutrient processor in the current (pre-Companion) release, so keeping a stack to feed predators is cheap and easy. I'd rather toss out a pellet than shoot them and one pellet can keep several occupied for a while.

I usually build one basic base per galaxy while I'm out exploring. Nothing fancy, a simple 2 x 3 concrete room with a landing pad and teleporter. And windows, lots of windows.

A minimal base with only the base computer is all that's really necessary to get back to any given galaxy. Teleport in and then use your Freighter to teleport out. But I like to have a place to get out of the rain.

In my 200 years of playing No Man's Sky I never tried putting carbon in the Nutrient Processor as I could make these in the Craft Product window. Just tried with the new update and the ratio is 1:1 in the Nutrient Processor and 60:1 from Craft Production (both ratios are Carbon to Creature Pellet).

There is a new experimental out but the timing definitely looks like it was released after end of the business day in Poland so it will be at least a day delay for GOG users. I pirated the notes from Steam:

Experimental Branch 17/02

•Fixed a glitch in the sleeping animation for blob-like creatures.
•A number of creature behaviours have been rebalanced to better match personality traits.
•Fixed a bug that could allow companions to attempt to locate a building while not on a planet.
•Fixed an issue that caused missing controller icons to appear when riding a pet using Vive controllers.
•Fixed a number of issues with the way companions aimed their mining lasers.
•Fixed an issue that could very occasionally cause creatures to use speech options from an incorrect personality type.
•Introduced a number of tutorial hints for the first time players who use the Egg Sequencer.
•Fixed an issue that could cause companion summoning icons to render incorrectly.
•Fixed an issue that caused inconsistent colour formatting in companion speech.
•Fixed a number of issues with companion particle effects.
•Fixed a number of issues related to network syncing creature interactions.
•Fixed a number of issues that caused players to appear in the wrong position when riding creatures.
•Fixed an issue that could prevent a small number of creatures from being customised.
•Improved the positioning of accessories on some four-legged creatures.
•Aggressive companions will now attack hazardous plants.
•Fixed an issue that caused some companions to only mine objects that were very close to them.
•Fixed a number of creature animation glitches that could occur in multiplayer.
•Fixed a crash that could occur when reading the text at a distress beacon.

EDIT: A second 3xperimental came out today but not for GOG.

If it helps at all, turn your terrain manipulator to the widest setting (counter-intuitive, I know, since it's generally better to harvest with the smallest setting) and mine the ground that way. You'll harvest a shit ton more silicate powder a lot faster.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot (no pun intended (well...)).
