As we all struggle to learn this game, the UI quirks, and figure out technical issues, I figured it would be good to have a thread for common questions or common solutions. Hopefully it will help some newcomers. Please add other things as they come up! :)
My game is capped at 30 FPS!
Go into your graphic options and set it to 60 FPS or Max. After choosing this, you must click-and-hold the left mouse button on the Apply button and wait for the white spinning wheel animation to finish, or your setting will not actually apply.
The game is not remembering my graphic settings
After changing graphics settings, you must click-and-hold your left mouse button on the Apply button. A two-toned white circle does an animation that can be hard to see/distinguish depending on your eyesight, if you have glare on your monitor, etc. If you just click Apply and let go as you are probably used to, NMS doesn't actually apply your settings. Also, many graphic options require you to exit the game and restart (it does prompt you if that is the case).
Game freezes/crashes on alt-tabbing, or won't let me switch back to it after alt-tabbing
This is affecting a number of people. A workaround of sorts is to set the game to one of the windowed mode options, which are on the graphics setting tabs.
Every time I go back into the game, I have to watch the intro and spawn on a new random planet
You can go up to your ship and press and hold Interact to enter your ship. This will create a savepoint, and works even when your ship is broken.
I load the game and it is stuck at "initialising (E)"
Press and hold E and keep holding it, and a spinning wheel animation will play and let you into the game. If you had rebound the "interact" key to something other than the default E, use that key. The game still displays E on screen but will reacts to whatever "interact" is set to.
My game is crashing!
Some people are able to fix crash issues by updating their graphic card drivers. Others are able to fix issues by installing/reinstalling the Visual C++ redistributable from 2010. This can be found under the _redist subfolder in your NMS game installation folder. Some antivirus programs block the install of Visual C++ during game install, so possibly temporarily disabling your antivirus and running a repair on your install can also help.
Unfortunately, these items do not fix the problems everyone is having, but do address some common issues.
How do I craft?
Open your inventory (TAB), and hover the mouse over an empty slot in your suit inventory (empty slots show a gear icon). Do NOT click the slot, or you get a different menu. If you hover the cursor, a context menu will show, with the second item down being Craft and the letter you must press (E).
When will we get the 1.03 patch? My executable shows 1.00
Apparently PS4 1.03 is the same as PC 1.0. A GOG moderator/employee posted that we do have the latest version, Hello Games just has a different versioning scheme for the different platforms.
