sorry if you see my name everywhere on these recent posts, I'm NOT spamming, but I have questions about this game that are not answered...
For example the question in my title. Because I cannot post on Steam that have some excellent guides (I bought the game here on GOG which is much better IMO), I have these problems with my Starship Inventory when handling crashed ships and wether it's worth changing the ships.

I easily found out that it's ALWAYS worth to change your ship with a crashed one, just because you can get for free its cargo if you dismantle it and then change back to your old ship. So far so good.

BUT: What's important with the inventory is that you must get it aligned and connected to be maxed out. But what you find in crashed ships is that generally all is BADLY aligned. So I wonder HOW the people who made these guides get all their technologies so good aligned like in the screenshot here:

Please look in the screenshot under the chapter 'Equipment'.
In my understanding, to reach such a GOOD alignment of the weapon technologies you have to be able to DISMANTLE EVERYTHING before and rebuild it.
But my problem is: I cannot, for example, dismantle the photon cannon and place it somewhere else, I can only dismantle upgrades and rebuild them.

So my main question is: Are you able to dismantle everything to rebuild your inventory, or HOW DO YOU REACH AN OPTIMAL INVENTORY like shown in the screenshot above ??? For me it's quite impossible to do, maybe because the Foundation update has changed the way you can do specific things.

No. And if you get the mod, to enable it, heads up. Game crashes, when you scrap the ships shields. Very handy mod, however, prior to foundation changes. The wreck smoke cloud mod, also made stumbling on crash sites easier, making game feel more gamey, if you ask 9 out of 10 gamers. This default method of discovering wrecks is assinine.

Ha! A mod...The guide author didn't even spread a word about that...That's plain misleading...
In some cases I was able to align 4-5 upgrades to my ship weapons and they have turned to be deadly, although these upgrades were between +1 and +3 only. Also the arrangement changed color, so it matters a lot.
But the screenshot above is not reachable with normal game play I think.

I have the same question, also including jetpack for example in exosuit inventory. some time ago a saw a mod that works but i did not use it. can you recommend something working for you? i would need the jetpack to be dismantled too.

Time has passed, and I got more infos now. The foundation update has corrected some bugs with the inventory, for example the Graviton Ball and other rare item stack bug and introduced a quick menu with 'X' during space flights.
From new information, it comes out that:
Generally you should not bother about the perfect arrangement of the items until you have maxed out all slots. These are 48 for the ship and exosuit, 24 for Multi-Tool. Then, some items cannot be dismantled, you have to build around them, but you can get the max settings once you have the maximum slots.

But still one flaw remains: if all your slots are occupied, then you cannot see the 'Install Technologies' window, so you have no idea about possible upgrades and the materials you need. What I do in the multi-tool: I just dismantle the Boltcaster gun to be able to see the technologies I can install, and then rebuild it again, but this is crazy, it has to be fixed and the window should be visible at any time IMO.

The thing is i have full slots now in exosuit aand starship inventory, also in freighter, i can construct all the technologies for everything. my problem is that the jetpack boosters cannot be installed aside the jetpack, because it is between the life support and hazard suit.

All the technologies work 100% if they are crafted alongside the main technology, and jetpack is the same i think. Once i have found a mod that can dismantle life support, but now it does not work. and after the foundation upgrade i cannot use my savegame for older version of the game wich still works with the mod.

or maybe it would not be an improvement afterr all, putting the boosters alongside the main jetpack. i do not have any information on it.

It's just important that the items are connected, it doesn't matter if horizontally, vertically or in irregular shape. So in your case you can go vertically and connect your boosters, for other things you can even build a square or imcomplete rectangle, all that is connected and not interupted. If you do it right you will see all items unified by a color around them.
Ahh, and: don't do like me, never dismantle a good warp reactor, or other tech if you don't have the blueprints !

I use it to re-direct me to systems that are out of my teleport. Hey, it's cool to materialize in space outside of your ship and trying to get in...This proves that all things are in rotation around the sun =:)
