I just re-installed this for the first time since it launched, when I first installed it in 2016 I could launch the game directly from the binarie folder, I would simply show up as "Explorer", online discoveries were off and I was fine with that, however that doesn't seem to work now, even with the galaxy client closed, my user name comes up, everyone elses discoveries are listed and online discoveries are on, is there anyway that I can play this offline now? Am I doing something wrong? Please let me know.

Sounds like you are confusing the installation having introduced GOG Galaxy client.

If you do not install GOG Galaxy client, and instead download the NMS Manual Offline Backup Installation files, install the game from those files, then your game will be fully offline.

See screenshot attached to this post

Your name will be Explorer, and the game will only go through the motions of uploading discoveries (awarding you units), but will not be able to actually upload them.

Having the Galaxy Client installed, enables the online communications with the server.
GOG want us all to use GOG Galaxy so they can advertise games in our face on our desktop, like the steam client does, and so they now hide the Manual Installation Game files so that more people who do not expand the files will believe the way to install things is to click the big button, which obviously also installs Galaxy, but you dont need to install that at all (unless you want the online stuff of course, but even then the Galaxy client cannot fully enable all the online features, because its not as good as steam client is in that regard).

Anyone who wants the full online experience, needs steam instead.
Anyone who wants an online experience that is hobbled by Galaxy, click the big button.
Anyone who wants the offline experience like yourself .. Just use the Manual Installation files, and do not have Galaxy installed at all.

Thanks Alt3n1ty I'll give this a go tommorow, why GoG has done this I don't know, to me it seems very anti-consumer friendly, my whole reason for having a GoG account is so I don't have to faff around with all of the online bull, and I thought the Idea of having the client was to make things easier instead of trying dupe the user, oh well I guess, there's not much that the likes of you or I can do about it.

Thanks once again, :)
