Per Sean's Twitter.

That's a little unexpected. I'll start a new save, as planned, but I guess I'll keep the old ones around too.

I am not surprised. If the game was becoming a "True" MMO it would make sense to reset the universe as MMO's need to have a level playing field when it comes to an in game economy. As far as I have seen/read there are no indications that Beyond will include a player driven economy which means there is less need for a reset.
I always start new with huge updates. Even
the most ardent Dev usually turns out wrong when he says your Saves won`t be affected.

I'm seeing reports on the NMS Reddit sub that some of the console players are experiencing crashes when using existing saves. Aside from that, the patch notes say they've streamlined a lot of the beginning of the game and they've added a whole lot of different things and tweaked a lot of processes. Starting new seems like the best choice to me.

Thanks for the headsup.
TBH I haven't played in so long that I forgot how to play and my world state. Despite not wanting to give up my wealth I will have to start over anyway.

Yeah, saw this just now: https://kotaku.com/players-say-no-mans-sky-beyond-is-crashing-and-develop-1837244236
seems to be consoles only for now.
If anyone remembers Next, I would back up your save files as much as possible in case of bugs.
My major issue is that you cannot remap the controls and that message box superimposed on the load/save/new game menu...
