SOLVED - Steam was the problem. Once I disabled Xbox Configuration Support in the controller settings, it was working normal in NMS.
This is likely tied into the button remapping problem, but is anyone else having trouble with the 360 controller?
The left stick will move the cursor around, but the buttons don't work right. At the starting menu, I noticed that as i move the cursor around, the "Hold __ to select and continue" button rapidly switches between the A and Left Mouse. For whatever reason, the game is constantly switching between controller and keyboard inputs. Because of this, press-and-hold doesn't work since it constantly cuts the controller input when it switches to the keyboard. This would also account for the jittering in-game movements that some have mentioned.
I did some digging and found that "No Man's Sky\GAMEDATA\INPUT\GAMEPAD.JSON" is just an empty dummy file. That may not mean anything, but the VR controller input files seem to be complete. Keyboard/Mouse controls all seem fine and I can play that way.
I've been using the controller since NMS launched without an issue before the Beyond update. Pretty frustrating...
The usual disclaimers:
Uninstalling then fresh install didn't fix it.
Nvidia drivers updated.
Controller works for other games.
Windows 7.1
Core i7 980
GeForce RTX 2060 Super
24GB RAM
