It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

I'm getting a curious issue where the game slows to about ~1 FPS whenever I pause or press ESC. Unpausing returns everything to working order, but exiting to the main menu does not. Lowering graphics and sound settings has no effect, and neither does messing with CPU affinity. I've updated my drivers. Does anyone else have this issue? Any suggestions?

You are not alone.

Try setting nwmain.exe to run in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP3 and with "Disable Desktop Composition" checked. "Disable Visual Themes" might be helpful as well.

I saw that--but compatibility options make no change. Meanwhile Windows 8 & 10 seem to forbid disabling desktop composition: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compatibility/desktop-window-manager-is-always-on
I seemed to have solved the problem, but only by doing all the fixes at once. Here they are in case anyone else comes across this:

# Find nwnplayer.ini in the Neverwinter Nights install directory and set Client CPU Affinity to -2. Find nwnmain.exe in the same directory and enable Windows XP SP 2 compatibility mode.

# Run the game, and, once it's running, bring up the Task Manager. Click on the "Details" tab, find "nwnmain.exe," and right-click on it. Under "Set Affinity," make sure everything is unchecked except "CPU 0," and under "Set Priority," select "High." Note that you'll have to do this every time you play unless you create a registry entry to do it automatically. (It won't let me post links, but just search for "registry cpu affinity" and it should be the first result.)

Cheers & I hope this is helpful!
