I decided to play NWN 2 again after over 5 years and the first time I tried to save it, it crashed. I verified that my Avast antivirus had the path excluded and it did. I tried several other solutions such as emptying the override folder and renaming the Neverwinter Nights 2 folder in My Documents so that the game would recreate it, but nothing worked for me. I let GOG Galaxy verify the files and that did not help. I had an old save game and I tried to load it from there and save it again but that didn't help either. I also verified that I had administration rights on NWN2.exe, nwn2main.exe, nwn2main_amdxp.exe and the NWN2Launcher.exe and set the compatibility mode first to Windows 7 and now Windows XP. That did not help. I also tried to quick save with the F12 key and it crashed trying that too.

The game seems to play all right other than that. It creates the save folder when I try to save, but some file is missing because I cannot load from it. If it saves a crash log, I can't find it. If anyone knows a solution I would appreciate it. Thanks for your help in advance!

I went through the tutorial and won the harvest fair. When I was done the game started chapter one and I decided to try an save it again. This time it just stayed on the save screen instead of showing a message that the game had crashed. I clicked on the screen quite a few times and nothing happened. After about five minutes I hit <Esc> and it just took me to the desktop with no messages.

I compared my new save folder with the good save that I had which was in the same room I was in when I tried to save. The new folder only had 24 files and the good save had 26. I compared them and the two files that were missing are currentmodule.txt and savenfo.txt. I copied those two files over from my good save and I was able to load the game. I tried saving again and had the same problem. Does anyone know why this is happening? I sure would like to get this fixed!

As far as I know this is not an usual glitch, and you have already tried many possible solutions, so it's not easy to help you.

Only a couple of suggestions come to mind:
- Reinstall the game using the offline installer (i.e. downloading the installer from the site, without using Galaxy)
- Make sure that the game has been installed into drive C: (some issues have been reported if the game is installed into a different drive)

Thank you for your reply! I have already downloaded the installer. The only problem is, I don't have much space on my Drive C: SSD. I just checked and I think it is enough for me not to run into any problems. I will give it a try.

I tried installing to my F: drive first. I loaded it, changed my armor and saved the game and it worked! Thanks a lot! Hopefully I won't have any other problems. Have a great day!

Happy to have been of help.
The Galaxy version should be the same provided by the offline installer: I'm not sure if the former add support to cloud saves for the game but I don't think so, hence this should not be the cause of the glitch.
If you still want to use Galaxy, you could try reinstalling the game again from it (maybe something went wrong on the first install, even if the files verification doesn't report any error), or you can simply import into Galaxy the game you have just installed using the offline installer.

I think I will be happy like this for awhile. Thanks again for your help!
