Just posting this because I had a devil of a time getting my toolset to work after installing the game on a new computer and none of the posted solutions seemed to work.

I sometimes use the NWN2 toolset to illustrate stories by taking screenshots. The results are pretty great and always unique, so I was annoyed when I couldn't get the toolset to open.

I had been using a Surface Pro 5 as my work computer and upgraded to Surface Pro 8. The main game worked fine, but I could not get the toolset to work at all. I followed all the instructions about making sure Direct X 9.whatever was installed as well as the .NET framework, but still it would not load.

In the end I was reading about an unrelated problem and using the offline downloaders to install. I got the option to install in the Program Files folder instead of in the GOG games folder and voila! Sure enough, when I tried to open the toolset it worked like a charm.

If you are having that kind of issue, try installing the game in the Program Files(x86) folder instead of the default GOG directory.

There's probably a setting telling the toolset where to look for Direct X and if you update that to account for the different pathname that will solve the issue too, but I don't know where that would be.
