I installed the game a while ago and got to a certain point.. i had stopped playing the game so i uninstalled it.

Here i am almost a year later, installed the game, eager to continue my campaign, when i see that my character and all my progress is gone....

I dont mean to sound rude, but while steam isnt DRM free, it keeps your saved games in the cloud - or at least on your computer - forever...
I love GOG for its amazing collection and stability of it, but i hate losing progression and losing my main character is a big downer for me.

Is there some way to get my old save file back? I really dont feel like starting a new campaign...

For me it was yesterday I stopped playing and today my savegame is gone :( To be specific: they are in the installation directory locally, but the game does not recognize them anymore.

You never played PC games other than on Steam?

Old games generally don't have cloud saving, NWN2 does not.

If this is the same computer, installing as same user, then if your saves were still there, then you would find them in the game.

If they are not there, you have must have deleted them during the uninstall, or sometime after that.

The saved games shouldn't be in the installation directory, but in the similar directory structure in the Documents folder.

Support provided a working solution for NWN regarding the saves. As it solved my problem I will share it here:

..."
- Please make a copy of your save files.
- After that please enter folder that contains the latest save file.
- Check if there are any files such as:
chapter one.sav
chapter two.sav
...

If so then please remove chapter one.sav, launch the game and check if the problem still persists.
"...

For NWN it worked, perhaps for other games also?
